Ok guys, I'm not sure if I should bother pulling all the components off the broiler box to clean and lube. OR keep it all together and try to clean it all. Ive looked it over and to me it looks like a small pin taken out will allow the cross pin that holds the burner on the shaft to come out. Then that shaft and arm will slide out the side of the box, allowing me to get more components off. That sound confusing, if anyone is familiar with broiler disassembly on this B model id sure appreciate some basic order of steps. ----------------------------------------- I have the broiler burner itself off, and in a tub of vinegar. After 3 days its almost all clean metal. However there is alot of metal rattling going on internally. ----------------------------------------- I'm getting ready to setup an electrolysis tank for my other parts I need to do rust removal on. ----------------------------------------- I havent looked too much into it, but if someone had order of removal for the oven door springs too, that would save me some time. THANKS in advance !!!!

I didn't bother take mine apart as i think it required replacing something which I didn't want to do. Regarding the burners, there are metal pieces that were used to keep the cast iron supported during firing that will rattle around afterwards. It's not dirt or anything to worry about.

I can take pictures of how I do mine. You will need a torch though to heat up a few tapered pins....but not all are removed. More info tomorrow. 😃👍

I have a torch & a semi full metal and wood shop so I can do whatever is needed! Been soaking the broiler burner in white vinegar for 4 days. I think it's ready to come out but, being out on the water half the day, I'm beat lol. (might as well share some personal photos from today) Broiler burner(should probably add a little water):

What a life....cool!
I’ve taken pictures of the broiler box and noted them with arrows for my tutorial. But, it’s near 1:00 AM and I need sleep. Will get those pics and instructions posted tomorrow for sure. 😞💤

Got my single & trio kettles, along with the small pot that attaches to the large kettle lid. This thermowell lid is in much worse shape than mine, but it has a solidly attached handle so IDK. Maybe ill deskin mine and fix the handle.

You are moving right along! My Chambers journey took years. You are such a go getter I wish you lived right next door, Voodoochikin04, and I could snooker you-I mean see if I could interest you into fixing my poor old deadster refrigerator in my basement while your wife and I had tall frosty drinks on the deck. That’s one project that I keep thinking maybe I’ll start and then I go down and look at it and I find something else to do.

Dwayner maybe that would better make its own thread for other people who may come about doing it? lol What I do when that happens once is open notepad up, type up my stuff, ad my photo links in.. then copy and past the whole bit. IDK if that works on this type of message board system, where you have an insert photo tool. But essentially that tool is just creating the proper code, so one would think it could be copy and pasted. I'll try it quick.

nana... well when im interested in something, I can be a go getter.. IF i dont want to do something, like laundry or dishes.... different story haha. I've been slacking these last few days on doing more cleanup though. I'd like to have this stove in and working before thanksgiving so I can do chuckies bird recipe I read somewhere. Also, what fridge do you have? I've never delved too much into older fridges (yet). My broiler box components just have light surface rust, BUT I think it would be beneficial to clean, protect, and grease the components for better operation. I did order some dawn power dissolver, so that should be here in a day or so. I plan to brass wire wheel the surface rust on the stove body, prep & etch the surface, then POR15 the body. Probably VHT the front face of the cast iron oven door, and then oil season the sealing faces and inner sides of the cast frame. I have the oven rack grates out and not sure how I want to proceed with that. I thought about drilling the rivets that hold the enamel side to the racks, and then nickel plating them at home with a copper base. But i'll have to see how they clean up first. The outer top of my oven box AND the inner bottom of my thermowell appear to be VERY rusty. I may need to make a new top for the oven box. Im planning on adding an aluminum cover panel as well for more protection. Im not sure how to proceed with the inner bottom thermowell piece. I need to remove it and see the damage first i suppose. I'll get more work done tonight and get some photos. i've put off my large sawmill project to do this stove since I can work on it in the air conditioning haha.

On the Well, I’d pull out that outer bottom sheet metal piece and see what that looks like too. If it’s more surface rust but the insulation you can see looks good down 2-3 inches then you may be OK. Mach12 showed me a trick I use on the rust spots on the enamel pieces...
-use a diamond tip tool to Dremel out the rusty areas, then come back and Dremel again with a small wire wheel.
-Dan on some Phos Acid to kill the rust and let dry 3 or more days.
-wipe on a very thin layer of food grade Mineral Oil and bake in the oven at 325° until no smoke. Repeat the oil and baking 2 more times.
Don’t get any acid on the nice enamel areas though because it will etch it within several seconds.
If the inner bottom of the Well is solid with no holes and it doesn’t bother YOU, treat the rusty areas as described above and leave as is. You can’t see the bottom anyway with the burner and grate on and it will work just like a new one anyway.

reading the broiler box tutorial now. My broiler setup looks like new compared to those photos.. I feel lucky. So far on the stove every fastener has come off like it was new.

Well thats a no go!! The shaft that holds the broiler burner, that has a 3/8 cross shaft in it.. Bent and then started to crack along where the little shaft goes into it. Bent 2 punches. AND didnt notice I had my broiler box off the edge of my table and put a nice hail dent up and broken the porcelain lol.. excellent. _--------------------- Ok got em. I'll get some pics soon.
--------------------------
Broiler box is all apart, but vgy is not letting me upload photos so those will have to wait.

They started a policy where you have to have an account to use them, otherwise it’s still free. That said, I couldn’t use them for an hour around 9:00 PM either, the screen said they were doing some maintenance thing.
If it cracked where that 3/8” pin goes thru I don’t see why you couldn’t grind out the crack a little and weld it back together....I don’t think that big shaft is cast iron, it’s steel. I try welding on mine tomorrow to be sure.
Once it’s welded, take a lap sander on a 4” grinder and sand it smooth again.
Oh, my broiler IS in bad shape. I picked it up (B stove) a couple weeks back for $75.00. I just wanted the outer panels off of it and any good parts on the inside like flashtubes, mixer pins, broiler burner and gears, etc.

Nah it was definitely vgy site.. I logged in and out and in and out lol, then created a new account.. ill try again now.
------------------------------------------------------
OK its working again.
So heres the photos from last night. I'm thinking I don't need to weld the shaft. It was just started to show a stress crack but its not an actual broken section. It'll be alright. I'm not sure If I should break those components down any further, such as messing with the parts that have punched screws to lock them in. Or grinding the factory weld off the gear shaft to remove the one gear, or pressing the pin out of the driven gear for the lift. I think I can clean and oil that spring loaded ramp screw for the pan lift system without disassembly. Thoughts?
Heres the spot where I wasnt paying attention, so thats cool.

I don’t take anything apart I don’t need to, as long as I get the pieces off the box. I do however recommend pulling out any and all bolts with bushings in them, which includes those with the boogered ends. If those bushings are dry and beginning to wear down, the bolt will be the next thing to go and then your trying to repair something you won’t have much access to while on the stove. I’ve seen several where that happened. Pull out the bolt, clean and grease the bushing and replace the bolt, or use new ones....that’s what me does.
And.....let those heated areas cool down before applying the PB Blaster. That may be why the shaft cracked later??? It’s like throwing cold water on a hot plate from the oven.....pop! 😜

Dwayner has forgot more about these stoves than I'll ever know, especially the broiler box, but as an FYI on lubes, for a grease I really like the synthetic disc brake grease and for linkage wear points like on cams or levers, a light coat of high temperature anti-seize works nice. I know one guy who has a roller on the broiler linkage that was flat on one side when he bought his stove and I put anti-seize where it runs and told him we could tear it apart when he could afford having the stove down for a day or two. My plan really was to do it when Dwayner was here lol. Now he says to hold off because he bought a can of anti-seize and dabs some on there every month or so and it works fine. I hate it when someone is as cheap and lazy as I am...

Haha theres a right and wrong time to be cheap and lazy, that's probably a fine time.
I trust dwayners wisdom for sure!
Shaft bent because I'm a knothead and didn't support it enough, and gorilla'ed on the pin.

Happens to us all. About a year ago I had the gear off a C broiler and had heated and sprayed it but the tapered pin wouldn’t come. It was the pin in the picture below with the red arrow pointed to it. I had it upside-down “on” a vice that was cracked open enough to let the pin fall thru. Well, after several tries I got frustrated and really whacked it...yep, cracked the round outer ring surrounding the shaft. And since that piece is part of the matching set that “can’t” be replaced, I screwed up the whole batch of gears for that box. And it was a really nice set with shiny lifter arms. 🤬
