OK, there was a Lisk roaster for sale on craigslist, EXCELLENT price of $15! So I emailed and said I would take it. The lady that owned it responded w/her address. I checked on Mapquest, like 45 miles ONE WAY.... Monkey wasn't TOO amused, as we already HAVE a VAST collection!! But she knows the value, and just shrugged it off.
S-o-o-o-o-o I write the lady back, suggest it is too far away---just back peddling to be honest. She writes back, she's headed to Lawrence for work, perhaps we could meet in a mutual/local area. So I FINALLY fess up my sins, and show her pictures of all our Lisks in the basement, PLUS a picture of a couple MORE on top of the Chambers Stove. I explained that I USED to restore Chambers stoves is how I got interested in Lisk, but I thought I'd have to just "pass" on hers. I also stated there was a guy that dwayner went to work on his stove in KC--Jeff--and I'd send her ad link to him, as I was fairly certain he'd be interested (aside--he texted he may contact her). Her reply--SHOCKED me!!!
"Thanks for your emails. I appreciate you letting me know both that you want to hold off as well as trying to find someone else who might be interested. it is okay if you want to give them my number.
I grew up with a restaurant quality Chambers stove with double oven and a grill on the side since we were 8 kids plus parents and family that always came by. I loved that stove so much. I learned to cook on it. I grew up in Mexico and when I was in my early 20s went to Europe and worked as a chef in a Mexican restaurant thanks to our oven.
The smaller ones, I love their look. I wish i had the means to get one. I love cooking and especially with gas stoves. I think it is super cool that you used to work on these kinds of stoves and that you know how to repair them. You seem so talented in many different areas. I always wanted to be a mail person too, I even had a little stained glass window of a mailman I got when I lived in California. I loved walking and used to get up at five am when my kids were little just to go walk before they got up. Perhaps this is too much info.
Anyway, thanks so much for your interest and help. If we lived closer and these were not pandemic times I would invite you and your wife for a nice dinner. All my best to you and best wishes. Take care, Saskia"
Stay tuned, I'll let you know if I hear more....

Now just how cool is THAT?!!!! (although she DOES overstate my stove repair abilities and "talents"--dwayner can testify just how much I can screw things UP!!) I emailed her back, and asked if I could post this out here, and she said yes. Below is her last reply:
I am really enjoying our emails back and forth. Thank you.
I love the idea of the blogs! You must send me the links please. Of course you can share my story. Would you like me to write a bit more? If you tell me how many words you would like, I can happily write you a short story with more information on it. I will ask my sister to see if she can find an old photo of the stove when we were kids, she is the one that kept the family photos, so please give me till Sunday to look for it.
