Not for Chambers, but for peace of mind for my sister and self. Visited relatives in Montana. Got to drive in a snow storm in N Dakota, and then went to the mountains. Ate lots and visited. Home now.

Ditto what Chuckie said. How could you not find some peace of mind with scenery like that to gander at. I think that's kinda what the author had in mind with the words, "purple mountain majesties".
I envy your gallivanting across America's high county. I'd love to criss cross the west to experience some of that scenery I've only seen in old westerns. I hope your snowstorm drive wasn't too much of a nail biter. I like driving in it around town, but not so much out on the high road far from home. After fifteen years of delivering pizzas, the only weather that scares me is ice.
I need a road trip myself. There never seems like a convenient opportunity. Being a night person, it's tough to get moving early in the day too. I'll just have to live vicariously through your pic for now.

I started to reply last night but have been kinda burning the candle at both ends lately and fell asleep in the middle of typing it.
That really is an awesome picture! I can feel the brisk weather and the warmth of the sun when I look at it and that's good photography. I have an old Army Surplus Chevy pickup and a camper that I take out and explore and do photography (very much an amateur) and this is my favorite type of image. Now I want to load up the rig and head for the Cascades or Olympics!
Nana - Every year I do a calendar with a separate picture for each month and then give them out as Christmas gifts. I was worried that it was getting old and skipped doing it one year and got in all kinds of trouble so had to do a rush order and pass them out for New Years. I'd be using that image, probably for October, if it were mine!

Here's another from different cousins place. The day before the snow. Calendars are a good idea, nana, will look into that. My sister and I took a lot of photos, my Nikon was better than the cell phone, but with the cold foggy lenses, wind, and battery issues you get what you get. I took about half and half with each camera.
Sometimes you just have to do the trip without worrying about if you can or should. Now its back to the old grind of settling our parents estate and all that goes with it.

Your vistas take my breath away. Dramatic compared to the flat cornfields & odd lumpy hills around here.

Ever since my first grandchild was born, my daughter has given us a calendar with pictures of the kids in season appropriate mode for each month. Easy for her, precious for us--a great gift! The best gifts are beautiful AND practical. I'm not surprised you got in trouble for skipping it one year, Mach12! I feel your pain a little, Cinnabar. My dad is still kicking, although we had to move him to assisted living this summer. The cleanout of the house and the settling of affairs is the same, though. Holy Smokes, I though I was a pack rat! We did come across some interesting stuff, family history, documents, etc. But a ton of work. Those calendars will be even even more precious this year, because after 8 years of having my grandkids next door, my daughter's family just completed the move to my dad's house, about 15 minutes away. Still close, but not the immediate gratification I'm used to.

Check the Costco Photo Center calendars while you're at it. I've tried several sources (including the high-end place my granddaughter uses for her photography business) and keep coming back to it.
I love being able to take all the shots with digital cameras and then just sort out the ones, or parts of them, that you want to keep. I started with 35mm back in the early 70's when I was in the Navy and took a class at the recreation center when we were in the Long Beach, CA Navy shipyard. Every shot had to be well planned since it was on film and what little bit of editing that could be done was complicated and took pricey equipment. I use Nikons too. Hand-me-downs from my granddaughter when she upgrades for her business. She carries four cameras and has so many different lenses that I get confused.
We've been through the settling of estates twice now and are probably not far away from it again. My mother-in-law will be 97 the 8th of next month and has been doing excellent until about a month ago when she started experiencing dementia episodes. They put her on a medication that seemed to nearly resolve the dementia but then a little over a week ago she decided to go for a confused walk, fell, and laid there for who knows how long until I found her. She spent the better part of a week in the hospital recovering from hypothermia and was diagnosed with leukemia while there too. Her house is on our property and less than 50 feet from ours so my wife is now staying there until we can either get in-home care set up or get her into a memory care facility ($5K to $7K per month around here). This stuff is never easy.
