We have one of these, use it for apple butter, spaghetti sauce, etc.---anything you want to "cook down & thicken". We get it to the boil, then turn the well down to as low as it goes. Monkey puts a splatter screen on it to keep the critters out and still allow it to vent/cook down, then lets it cook for hours, stirring only occasionally (you are far enough away from the flame in the well). www.ebay.com/itm/272714683677?ul_noapp=true#shpCntIdNice price, $7.62 shipping, what's NOT to like?! CHEERS! Chuckie

That does look like a nice one and it's hit & miss finding one with the trivet. It calculates the shipping to my zip at just under $16, but it doesn't matter - I have a stack of these, though most are the Thrift Cooker style that came with electric ranges around here. Around here they pop up in thrift stores for between $6 and $10 and in the antique stores they're more like $20-$25. Once I get this kitchen finished I need to go through all of the pots and pans I have and bring down the numbers to something less ridiculous. Last I remember I had 6 Thrift Cookers and 3 like the one in the eBay listing (two I'm pretty sure are Mirro and one either is unmarked or the stamp is illegible). At least a couple will be extras but the rest will stay with stoves I have and go with them to their new homes, wherever that ends up being.
If anyone wants me to keep my eyes open for one of these just let me know and I can start looking. I've walked past several lately because I have too much of this kind of stuff as it is. My wife will back that up - quite willingly...

Find one in stainless steel or enamel and you can put me at the top of your list, Mach12!

Find one in stainless steel or enamel and you can put me at the top of your list, Mach12! I've only ever found one enamel one and it was "well used". I'm sure it was from a fireless cooker. I just ordered a heavyweight stainless Bain Marie and lid but by the time I have it ready for the t-well I'll probably have $75 in it. Gotta Do Whatcha Gotta Do. I guess.

It was worth asking. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

That's a really cute size. I find I use my smaller ones more often.

Nana, what are you doing for a pot. I could try and get one of the blue enamel ones I posted last year if you like next time I go to Indianapolis. I use mine almost exclusively as it's smaller than my SS pots.

Thanks for thinking of me, but I'm mostly set. I have two aluminum camp pots--about a 1 1/2 qt and a 3 qt, a Chambers single kettle, 5 triple pots and three lids to go with them, and a stainless steel pot I rescued off the junk heap that's a hair smaller than the single kettle. Plus if I use my double decker thermobaker as a lifter, I have a few stainless lined copper pots that fit. About the only thing I would say I could really use would be a cast iron enameled big pot...but I'm not hurting for Twell pots... I wrote the above post before I found the stainless one. Some of them are kinda ugly, but they work!

That sounds like my collection. I do have a SS for one stove, but with the other I have my SS pressure cooker retrofit! I just really like the enamel for some reason.

Okay - going to try this one last time. Just spent 1/2 hour typing and the stupid thing went away. So frustrating. I'm not going to edit this time. I have a tumor on my left ear nerve called an acoustic neuroma and it's kind of messing me up so I apologize in advance for the errors. The brain still works great but for some reason when I think go to type something I'll get a word wrong or forget a letter. So far nothing I've been slapped for though. I commented on one of the Facebook Chambers pages about the set of pots I use in the well that are for a 6 quart Instant Pot and how I've been looking at the ones they now have for the 8 quart Instant Pot. Even if you have the original ones you might like to have a set of these but if you don't have any then these will get you well on the way using your Thermowell. The pots are two different sizes so I filled them with water (to the brim) and measured what they hold. The larger one holds 4 quarts and the smaller one hold 3 quarts. Since that's to the brim working volume would be a bit less. The set comes with a wire lifting rack that works fine for getting it in and out of the well. There room for it to set on a thinner diffuser like an Ilsa though I'm not sure it's needed. I use one when I can just in case. Here are some photos. They're a bit fuzzy because I turned off the flash to save battery. First one is the 6 quart one sitting on the original and the one with the blue paper label still on it is the 8 quart I just bought. And all the pieces: In the Thermowell: The two diffusers I tried (I really like the Ilsa, the black one on the counter in the photo): And if you're comparison shopping, here's the box:

Mach12, I must just be super slow, but I didn't realize that there are FB Chambers groups! Is there one that's particularly good that I could join? And do you know who is running it? And, for the record, I'm still blown away by your stove.

There are two that I'm aware of and they've only been around for a year or two I think. I lose track of time though, so that's just a ballpark. One of them is called Chambers Range Fans (admins are Daniel Wm Laurie and Bill Collins) and the other is Chambers Ranges Buy Sell and Discuss (admins are Carlita StoveLady Belgrove and Gregg Barnes). I follow them both and am not sure which one I'd go with if I had to choose one over the other. There's probably a bit more activity on the buy sell and discuss page. I hope people stay active here as well, especially since these sites build searchable threads that capture tons of info. Facebook is good and will link people needing help with answers but nothing like the wealth of info available here and on the other site.
Thanks for the nice compliment on Pepper. So much credit goes to others and it really feels like it was a Chambers community project. Dwayner, as he does, helped out so much I can't begin to express, Pooka with tons of info, documentation and so on, Vaporvac with her wealth of knowledge and support, I could just go on and on. What a great bunch of people.
