I normally cold smoke shells (mac) & cheese noodles IF I know in advance we're gonna have it. Adds a nice touch. I bought a ham on sale, and was hungry for this, so made it tonight. Subbed in 1 TBS liquid smoke, and it gave it a nice smokey flavor w/o the extra work. Try it, you'll like it!! CHEERS! Chuckie SMOKEY & SPICY BAKED SHELLS & CHEESE2 – boxes shells (mac) & cheese prepped as instructed ( can make your own if you wish) 2 – TBS butter 1 – TBS Liquid Smoke 1 – can Rotel tomatoes 1 – 8 oz. bag shredded sharp cheddar or cheese of choice Topping:¾ cup Italian bread crumbs ¼ cup melted butter Preheat Chambers to 350. Prep shells & cheese per box instructions. When noodles done and mixing box cheese packets in, add the 2 TBS butter, liquid smoke, and Rotel tomatoes. Put half of prepped shells & cheese mix in 2 qt. buttered casserole dish. Put ½ shredded cheese on top. Add remaining shells, and then rest of shredded cheese. Melt the ¼ cup butter in a skillet, turn off fire, add bread crumbs, whisk to combine (will make like a coarse meal). Scatter over top of shells & cheese. Bake 30 minutes @ 350 degrees or until bread crumbs are nicely browned. Pairs well with baked ham or BBQ.

You're on a roll, Chuckie! LOL, no I just like to share recipes that I know W-O-R-K and taste good! I had made this before w/cold smoked noodles but w/o the liquid smoke, so wanted to try/verify BEFORE posting tonight... I liked that they said Julia Child NEVER published a recipe---unless she had first TRIED it. That is what I always try to do. Believe me, I try/make PUH-LENTY of recipes that are just "so-so" or a bust, that I never post. Methinks the JFK waffle recipe was about thee only one I never tried before posting, but we don't HAVE a waffle iron, so didn't see that 'test drive' happening soon... CHEERS! Chuckie

Now I can't believe you don't have a waffle iron! I have so many recipe posts in my mind, but just never post them.

That is shocking that of all things you don't have would be a waffle iron. It may be an appliance that many have, but don't use much. Most people have at least one. I see them at the thrift store all the time. I have four. Two aluminum stove top, plus an ancient electric from the teens & a newer Belgian waffle iron.

Pooka, I think I've lost count. The thing is once you start making them, you realize how easy they are to do, even those with the yeast starter. It becomes a habit. I often make a batch and freeze them and just pop them into the toaster! With my high-protein mix the sourdough ones are good for dinner or a snack. Chuckie, growing up my Mom had a recipe book from the White House (Not THE WH cookbook) during the Eisenhower era. It had some really unusual to me then recipes. I'll have to look for it. I remember being shocked at a dessert called Summer Pudding, but it was good when I made it. Found it! Gee, I love Google! www.amazon.com/White-Favorite-Recipes-President-Eisenhower/dp/B000V6OZIG

Ya know, there's a LOT of "common" things that even as a KID, I didn't care for. That included HAMBURGERS (which I would GLADLY eat as a pattie w/o the bun and associated veggies & condiments!), pancakes, waffles, and donuts! There may be a few more things, just not on the top of "my head". Dunno WHY, but I just never CARED for them whatsoever!! And my Mother even made homemade donuts--along w/waffles and pancakes. Go figure! CHEERS! Chuckie

I suppose we all have some peculiar tastes to some extent. Some more so than others. As a child, I was a picky eater. There were some things you couldn't force me to eat. I'd rather starve. To this day I won't use ketchup or mustard, but they're OK in cooking. Even now, I won't eat at McDonald's, because as a kid, I couldn't get a plain hamburger. They lost my business forever for that move. I'm not big on salads either. It's not so much the salad's ingredients, but it's the salad dressings that turns my stomach. I can't stand the smell or taste. As an adult, I'm more adventurous, but a burger better not have anything else but cheese, pickle & onion. Maybe lettuce. Yet I'll eat kimchi, so go figure. Dad used to like pickled pig's feet right out of the jar. I still think they're nasty. So Chuckie, if you don't like some common things that everyone else does, you're in good company. vaporvac, That "White House Chef" cookbook sounds like one to look out for. I try to look at cookbooks at the thrift stores, but there are so many bad ones, I rarely have the patience to sort through the piles. If anyone else is interested, the "White House Chef" can be had used for less than the $37.99 at vaporvac's link. Here's a couple links where the prices run from $9.93 to $20.00.
