Do you multi task with it for other things or dishes?? Yup! Its great as a mixing bowl as its deeper than most of mixing bowls are. Plus, it makes anything steamed. So, on my list of dishes to make is treacle sponge pudding. You can also use it in the oven as its oven safe, its safe in the microwave and most of them can be dishwashed. Its really handy - I found myself using it more often than not - my mum had some stripy ones that were really cute *g* With the thermowell, I'm planing on using the pot as the steaming vessel, if it all fits well. I just gulped and spent some money at Lehman's on three. Two 1 pint (.7qt) size and one two pint/ 1.1L (1.2Qt) one which I'll use for making other puddings. I may just save my pennies and see if I can get another two of the .7qt (1 pint) sized ones so I can make 4 puddings. 2 for us and 2 for some friends. Next on my list is to candy some peels to make candied peels. I am also searching for treacle, I have the golden syrup, just need the treacle and sultanas. Ah, the joy of making christmas pud! *lol*

I vote we all take a 'field trip' to Anthea's!! ;D ;D It would be a great learning experience for us. I too have no idea what what is at times and have to google to see what <it> is. Kind of reminds me of all the different types of bar-b-que we have here in the states according to the region. On the way home we can swing by Asfan's for another cultural experience too!! ;D Maybe when no one is looking I can stock up on some LeCreuset at Anthea's and that cool scale I have been eying @ Asfan's for some time now. just kidding!!

What's a treacle?? I'm guessing sultanas are like raisins?? Janice Treacle is made from sugar cane, the second boiling - called Molasses or dark molasses (not blackstrap). The first boiling produces syrup (golden syrup) which tastes waaaaaaaaay better than corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup which gives me a major tummy ache. Sultanas are a variety of white grape - in the States, Thompson Seedless is the varietal mainly used in this country, not the original of turkish origin. All dried grapes are raisins, but not all raisins are sultanas - they pop the "Sultanas" on it to distinguish its naturally golden color when dried and there is a taste difference. Not to be confused with the "golden raisins" which are not sultanas but actually processed with sulphur to lighten the color. And also not to be confused with currants, which are actually dried berries from the black, white and red currant plants. The zanta 'currant' is actually a raisin *G* So, confused yet? *lol* And yes, there is actually quite a considerable taste difference!

I bought some similar size/shape bowls from Crate & Barrel last year. They weren't listed as "pudding" bowls, though. I think the art of pudding making was lost on most Americans with the invent of Jello.
