Here is a great recipe that quick and easy
all you need are some fresh oysters in the shell and Gorgonzola cheese
pick fresh oysters at the fish store that are at least 3" long and buy the ones with the deepest cup. When you hold an oyster the top shell is flat and the bottom shell is the cup, that's where the meat is the deeper the cup the better the meat. heat your broiler when hot place the oysters on the sizzle platter flat shell UP. if you find they are to tippy, fill a pie pan with salt and Nestle them in to hold them steady. adjust the height of the platter to about 4" from the flame and shut the lid. In about 3 to 4 min the shells will begin to open, remove the oysters from the heat and remove the top shell saving as much of the liquid as possible. crumble some Gorgonzola cheese on top and return to the broiler until the cheese begin s to melt. take them out and enjoy. this works just as well on the gas grill. If anyone wants oysters I can send them. Nice to be aboard Don

Yes. I'll ship oysters. I'm involved in an aquaculture endeavor raising oysters. We have about 3 million growing now with about 1 million ready for harvest. These are grown completely in a local salt pond here NOT in a tank of filtered water. These are true wild, cold water oysters. I can ship overnight or 2 day they hold up great during shipping. Don

Don,
I'm interested in some fresh oysters. Do you subscribe to the old tale of only eating oysters in months that have an r? Please post on how we would be able to order oysters from you. Maybe you can put an order sheet on the board.

NO i don't believe in the only r month thing, i think that came to be because the water is warm in the no r months and the oysters did not keep as well (before refrigeration) In colonial days oysters were kept in a root cellar and as long as the cup was up they would live for the entire winter. If anyone would like to order just PM me and we'll get it done. they are .70 each plus shipping. If you like oysters you'll love these. Don

Don, Tell me more about the oysters from your neck of the woods versus what I've grown up on here on the Gulf of Mexico. The northern one are more "meatier" than ours, correct??? We would have to shuck them ourselves too, correct??? I don't like doing that. messy messy messy!!

Don, I think we need a lesson on how to shuck oysters. I do remember to cut away that "muscle" from the shell, most important.

Is your restaurant located in Newport? If so what's the name? Spent part of my honeymoon in Newport. I love Rhode Island. I was planning to spend a couple of days there this summer.

Don how do we order oysters??? Our bays here along the gulf keep getting closed down do to high levels of bacteria, mercury, red tide, or something. Really starting to effect oyster harvest. Sure those chemical plants all along the gulf have a lot to do with that. Bay's we fished, swam and loved as kids are now closed for just that!! Would love to have a more "safe & sound" source. ;D
