I spotted this the other day on reddit. The house is for sale for 2.9 million. they've upgraded the ovens & dishwasher, but the cook-top with Plane-Of-Flame burners was not touched. In the close up pic, one knob has been replaced with a mismatched one. It looks like a place where some of the late 60s rockers would hang out. 21044 Waveview Drive Topanga, CA 90290

Mudslides, wildfires and earthquakes…hard pass on California for me! I like the whole knotty pine vibe, it reminds me of the vacation cabins of my youth, but I think the asymmetry would get to me. 2.9 million, yikes! How did you come across this listing in the first place??

I'm with you that this would be a cool place to visit, but I don't think I could live there. I'll always be a Hoosier boy. I don't think I'd ever be comfortable living in California. No mater what good things people say about the state, earthquakes, wild fires & mudslides are enough to scare me off. Here in Indiana, occasional floods & tornadoes is the worst we have to offer. My family has lived within fifty miles of here for the last one hundred & fifty years or so at least. We never saw the draw to go anywhere else. We did have uncle Bill who moved to Pennsylvania though.

Well, Pennsylvania isn’t exactly such a big change from Indiana I guess. Maybe something about it seemed familiar and he thought it felt like home!
One thing I did like about California the times I’ve been there is the smell of the eucalyptus trees in the hot sun. They’re an invasive species there, and I guess they cause a lot of problems, but boy do they smell good!

What a beautiful place, though! I really like the mid-century sweeps and angles and all those lovely trees and rocks outside. I see the appeal of living there, but I can't imagine paying for that.

I want to like it, but I think it's just TOO unconventional. I have a love/hate affair with 50s & 60s modern styles. Some homes & furnishings seem strange to the point of being uncomfortable or overly quirky to use. This house seems to just ramble on in every direction for no apparent reason, like they started out with a core plan, then tacked on stuff randomly. It's just confusing to me.
I suppose this house suits it's location & time it was built. This is the California dreamin' lifestyle in spades. I'm not extravagant by nature, & this this house it just too much of everything. Too many angles. Too many windows. Too much wood. I could live with something like this on a much more modest scale, but that's just me.
I don't know how much of that 2.9 million is location, & how much is the house, but it's certainly out of our league.

I would imagine about 2.5 million is the location, at least. The Chambers cooktop and the purple vanity top say to me that this place has not been recently redone, which may mean there is a possibility of more than cosmetic damage, unless they were very meticulous about the upkeep…
It’s likely that the deep pocketed people who could afford this would call it a fixer upper!
