The thrift shop in town just opened back up after being closed for over a year due to the pandemic. They are community oriented and were putting stuff out on their porch for free, especially kids clothes, bedding, etc, that people who were in need could just take. But they weren’t putting out the little items that make thrifting such a pleasure. So of course, I had to go see what had they had after a year of isolation induced cleanouts. Now I don’t know if this was a thing all over or just in New England, but you used to be able to buy your pies in returnable for deposit tins. A lot of you have probably heard the apocryphal story of how college students at Yale played with the pie tins from the Frisbie Pie company and gave rise to the Wham-o Frisbee flying disc. I think there’s some truth to that, looking at the rounded shape of this one I just couldn’t pass up for a dollar: Where the sides meet the bottom is a nice, smooth curve, a lot like a frisbee. It’s a nice, heavy pan. If college students used these as frisbees they probably knocked out a bunch of teeth! I won’t be throwing mine, I will definitely try out a pie and see if those little airholes punched in it do anything to prevent the dreaded soggy bottom. I imagine you better slice your pie with this sitting on another plate if you don’t want the juices to run out all over the counter though! Attachments:

Weird. I first tried to attach the picture just using the forum, and it gave me that little blank square, so I thought it didn’t work. So I went to vgy.me even though I fear someday this picture too will disappear. But when I click on the blank square, there’s my picture! I swear I just don’t get technology...🤷♀️

I've never seen a pie pan that had that more rounded shape. I imagine the curve make a pie server slide under a piece of pie easier than a regular pan. I don't think we ever had a factory sized business around here baking pies. Bread, yeah, but not pies. Too many home bakers I guess. That, & restaurants that are known for their home made pies.
I had to do a quick refresher search for Frisbie. The pie company was in business til 1956 when they got bought out by Table Talk, the maker of your pan. Apparently there's a guy who's revived the brand name in a snack cake size. He's a Frisbee enthusiast. Here's a link to an article about the new Frisbie pies.
The Wikipedia says Frisbie Pie Company pans were used by "nearby schoolchildren tossed the plates around and yelled "Frisbie" to alert others to avoid the spinning tins. The game the children played made its way to nearby college campuses." Wham-O bought the right to the "Pluto Platter", & in trying to market them found kids were already calling them Frisbies. They changed the spelling to Frisbee to dodge copyright laws. I'm still hitting the thrift stores, but they've been reopened for a while. Any more, something has to be pretty special, or something I need to catch my eye. I need to clear out stuff I don't need. I just bought a big cookie cutter, & I'm not a cookie baker. But it is an exceptional specimen. At a couple of bucks, I couldn't walk away. It's solid copper, & made by the Connecticut Copper Works. When I got home & looked it up, I see them selling for forty to sixty buck. This is one over the top cookie cutter. Maybe I'll send it off to you. You may get more use out of it than me. It's an eight inch tall ginger bread lady. If I had a head for selling, I should be selling my extra stuff.

That is a damn fine cookie cutter! It would look great just hung up on the wall, even! I thought the same thing about the curved edge making it easier to serve. I know for sure it will make it easier to place the crust in the pan without cracking it somewhere and having to pinch it back together. I will test it out today. Blueberry, I think. I still have a lot of them in the freezer.
I went and read the FAQ at vgy.me, and saw that they delete photos if no one has looked at them in 90 days. So all the old posts lose their pictures. Like watching a TV show with only the sound. I contacted them and explained what I use them for, in the forum, and asked if there was any way to keep them permanent. We’ll see if they get back to me...

Here’s the pie! I let it go a bit too long because I was worried the frozen blueberries would need more gas. I should have cut down on the gas on time and let it go longer with the gas off. Oh well, better luck next time. The dark, heavy pan definitely browned the crust more, and I’m glad I thought to put a pizza pan under it on the rack below, because there was a little boil-over of the juice and quite a bit of melted butter that leaked out those holes. I shudder to think about the ovens at the Table Talk bakery what with all the shortening that must have been burned onto the bottom...

That looks like a fine pie, nana! I used to see pie pans like that (minus the holes) for a quarter to fifty cents. I would use them if I baked a pie to take somewhere. If I got it back, great. If not, also great! Alas, I ran out of them and haven't been to an estate sale in the last year to replenish my stash.
