I THOUGHT I'd posted this out here, but if I DID, can't find it!!! @ any rate, was gonna make this to take to my nephew's 45th birthday tonight, and make rolls/slit the sides so they could like make their OWN "bierocks". I had to work a funeral, was late getting home, and like a FOOL made the CASSEROLE first and FORGOT the ROLLS!!! S-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O, about 1/2 hour before we were to be there, Monkey was getting off of work, and I BEGGED her to stop @ Aldi's, get a coupla pax of those 45 calorie flour tortillas, and a jar or two of their salsa, and we all made "Polish BURRITOS"!!! Everybody R-A-V-E-D about them, they WERE delish!!!
So here is the casserole recipe--which is good "as is" to serve with some sort of bread or rolls, and some folks like mashed spuds w/it. At any rate, it's a keeper, and as we CAN testify, makes GREAT burritos too!!
CHEERS!

GOLUMBKI CASSEROLE
*1-# hamburger *1-18 oz pkg. Aldi's Hot Italian sausage
*1-lg. Onion,chopped *2 cups-uncooked 5 min rice
*3-Tbs. chili powder (or to taste) *2-Tbs. lemon juice
*2-14oz cans Italian-style chopped stewed tomatoes *1 & ½ cups-water
*1-14oz can Rotel Original Tomatoes (generic is fine) *1-small cabbage
*1-bell pepper, minced *powdered Chipotle pepper, to taste
In a extra deep no stick skillet w/a lid, begin to brown meats, turning & breaking up. Add chili powder & lemon juice. Peel & coarsely chop onion & bell pepper, add as you chop. Stir frequently while meats & onions brown/cook to prevent burning/sticking.
Remove/discard outer leaves/core of cabbage. Cut remainder of cabbage into ¼” strips, then dice into bite-size pieces. Add to skillet & stir. When meats are almost completely brown, add water/tomatoes (I usually drain grease before adding ANYTHING else, original recipe didn’t call for that). Stir, cover & bring to the boil. Add rice, stir to moisten completely, cover & cook 5 min more. You can now put in a the large thermowell pot until ready to serve, or in a crockpot**.
Serve as a side or as MEAL, with homemade rolls, ti's hardy enough to stand on it's own! Also can serve on soft tortillas to make D-E-L-I-S-H burritos outta it.
**(If too thick when in thermowell or a crock-pot awhile, add tomato juice).
