The stove is way scarier than the cookers!

Truly a nightmare scenario for me! 😱😱😱
I'm surprised that they're allowing the dinner to take place out there. Everything here in NY is shuttered up tight. Bars, restaurants, schools, even churches are closed, with tight limits on the numbers of people who can gather. It may seem extreme, until you think about it. A highly contagious disease that is very dangerous for some, but others can walk around spreading it but showing little to no symptoms. A nightmare scenario for health officials, for sure. An uncontrolled outbreak would quickly overwhelm the medical system, especially in rural areas like mine, where the past decade or so has seen many local hospitals and clinics close.
One of the unkindest cuts to me is the libraries are closed right when sitting tight with a stack of good books is the most virtuous thing a citizen could do!

We're the same here and no gym! : (( and too rainy to garden. I'll have to see what they have online to read from the library, but if not it not like I don't have a house full of books. I was surprised myself they had that dinner. We even closed opening day a while ago! Our Governor has been really proactive and it is very reassuring knowing they are on it. We even cancelled voting just today for tomorrow. I was a little worried about that. Now we can cook on our Chambers without interruption! I'm going to post something later on now that I have more time.

I went into a closed dinning room at work until further notice. They cleaned & sanitized everything in sight. I spent my spare time straightening bent pan corners with a wrench to fill time. They're only going to do drive through & carry out till who knows when. If so, I may just zero out my vacation time that I never use. I must have a couple of weeks at least. There are countless projects at home I could try to get ahead of.
As for reading material, I've been on a kick the last year or so buying books at the thrift stores. I'm not so much into novels or fiction. I look for quirky or local cook books, local history & maybe philosophy of sorts. I've taken to read a few pages on my breaks at work. But I buy the books faster than I can read them. Sometimes you have to be in the right frame of mind for the subject matter too. I've never been a big reader. I'm a better listener & observer. Books to me are more of a source of information than a pleasant diversion. I may never read all the books I buy, but they're bought out of ambition that I might read them. Sorry if this current situation is throwing a wet blanket on any Saint Patty's day celebration. I just read an article about a the parades during the Spanish Flu. Philadelphia held theirs & ended of with 12,000 dead. St. Lois canceled theirs & only had 700 deaths. This isn't Spanish Flu, but caution should be the word for the day.
What I fear the most is the shysters & spreaders of false & misleading information. Jim Baker the televangelist has been told to stop selling a cure by New York State, & also Alex Jones of InfoWars fame has been at it too. There's another who's going to heal you through the TV screen. Some people aren't safe from their own stupidity. This toilet paper & sanitizer craze is just that, a craze. Maybe they think that'll be the new currency amid the impending chaos, I don't know. Lets hope calmer heads rule the day when it's all said & done. I'm just taken it all in one day at a time for now.

Our school is closed to students, but we have been working to make sure that classes continue as best we can online. Some students though don't have internet at home, or if they do don't have a suitable device, or they have one computer for 4 kids, or something like that. We've been letting them into the building a few at a time for these three days to pick up their books and any photocopied lessons, and working out a courier system with the school buses which will also be delivering breakfast and lunch to all the kids in the district, not just the ones who are free and reduced price eligible. A lot of folks here are paycheck to paycheck and when you have no paycheck and there's no food to buy anyway because of the panic buying things can get pretty grim pretty soon. What's really heartbeaking is I spoke to one mother today who was nearly in tears because her son had been recently diagnosed with Type I diabetes and she had spent three hours driving to every pharmacy in the area and was unable to get him the insulin he needed to survive. People have been stockpiling even that, leaving none available. People's insurance will only cover a certain amount at a time, but she said she was told people had been coming in with cash and buying a years supply at a time. I think it is unconscionable, given what happened with the stupid toilet paper and all, that any pharmacist with any ethics would allow that. Hardship can bring out the best or the worst in people, I guess.

Our attorney general announced a couple of days ago that they were prosecuting some of the hoarders under state law and have referred a large number of federal violations to the federal government. Apparently there are laws in effect during regular times and then when a state of emergency is declared there are a bunch more and at least here they're enforcing them. We've become way too much of an "it's all about me" society. I guess it's no surprise when we're bombarded with so much "you deserve a break today" type advertising and that kind of stuff.

Stuff like this does have the effect of stripping away the veneer of civilization. People show their true colors.
