While at a new craft brewery today that recently opened near us (thank you Governor Cuomo for proving that even a stopped clock is right twice a day) we met a nice fella who, in the course of alcohol fueled conversation, mentioned that he does metal work. My ears perked up, we talked a bit, and he gave me his card, which even if he's just full of hot air is one of the best business cards ever, in my humble opinion: Even his email is just fabulous! Anyway, he said he can work in stainless steel, I described a thermowell pot for him, and he seemed gung ho. I will email him a couple pictures of the big single kettle and he said he would give me some pricing. Was it the beer talking? Could be. I've learned that good beer can obscure a multitude of sins. But IF he can do what he said he can do, and IF it is reasonably priced...Dare I hope? What price would people be willing to pay considering what original aluminum singles cost on Ebay?

I love his card! Even his name sounds like something out of The Princess Bride!
I would be interested in buying one of the stainless pots, since I'm always worried that my 1920s latches will give up the ghost when I'm pulling out a full pot. As for price, I have no idea what they are currently going for... Maybe if someone could name a ballpark price I could say yes or no to it.

A single pot is going in the neighborhood of $100 give or take. A stainless steel one might be worth a bit more.

I don't want to get my hopes up too much. I've been down this road before. But if people are interested, I'll send him some pictures and measurements and see what he says. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

It won't hurt to make inquires. What's the worst that could happen. He could quote you an outrageous price or decline altogether. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Well, he got back to me, no go. He said he would not be able to fabricate them economically. He did direct me to a website, McMaster Carr, where I suspect certain handy folk on this forum could spend many a happy hour browsing, but their cooking pots were pricey and they had none in the right size...the search continues!
However, this thread was not in vain because I have to thank you for reminding me of The Princess Bride, Karitx! The next opportunity I have to watch a movie with the grandkids, that will be what we watch!!
