Zombie Deer – Humans Next? For many years there has been science fiction stories, many movies and TV shows about human zombies. Human zombies are fiction but now we have what some call zombie deer. Known as chronic wasting disease (CWD), the highly contagious and often deadly affliction has ravaged the deer population in an estimated 24 states in the USA and two Canadian provinces. As the disease, which causes a lack of fear of humans, lethargy and emaciation, decimates deer and elk populations. CWD is not a viral or bacterial disease; rather it is transmitted by prions, protein particles that have been linked to brain diseases including mad cow disease. Prion diseases severely damage brain tissue and are incurable. Although it's possible the disease could spread to humans, according to experts, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there have been no cases reported of humans contracting it. However, they cautioned there are some studies that suggest CWD "poses a risk to certain types of non-human primates, like monkeys, that eat meat from CWD-infected animals" and there may "also be a risk to people."
Food for Thought When diseases transfers for one the of animal species to another, the effect of the disease sometimes changes. Prion diseases severely damage brain tissue and if (or when) chronic wasting disease (zombie deer) is transmitted to humans, what effect will it have? Human zombies? It probably would not be like the zombies of the TV show “The Walking Dead” but.......
Note: This is real, not a fake story; do your own research on “Zombie Deer”

I know it is true, because we have, so far, a healthy deer population in New York, and I know they are serious about keeping that disease out of here. Not far from me someone tried to open a game farm with captive deer for hunters from the big city to come up and be assured of "bagging" a deer. The unsportsmanlike premise horrified all the local hunters, and they got a lot of bad press, and also they were regulated out of existence because of the fear of introducing CWD into the wild deer herd if one escaped.
An interesting side note, I am not allowed to donate blood even though I am O negative which is the universal donor because I lived in Germany during the Mad Cow scare, and they will not take a chance on me, even after all these years. I could be a carrier. It's serious stuff.

If that's not enough, the local news reported that there have also been a few recent cases of hunters contracting tuberculosis from deer during field dressing.
