I have an old partial Lisk, just the bottom and insert, no top, with a few big chips out of the enamel. It's been hanging around, basically useless and unwanted, but I couldn't bring myself to just throw it out.
Yesterday was a beautiful, lazy Sunday and me and Hubby decided to spend it in our outback at the firepit. I had some southern style pork ribs marinating and all of a sudden it dawned on me what that old roaster was destined for. I put the insert on the grill, with a smaller rack across it, and a bit of liquid in it. Then the ribs on the rack, the bottom became the lid to go over it, and we pushed most of the fire over to the other side of the pit and maintained a small smoky applewood fire for the next couple hours. The ribs were fantastic. That old Lisk now has a place of honor as a homemade smoker! I can't wait to try out more stuff--chicken, brisket...if it fits, it smokes!

Nice job, nana!! I have a partial roaster kicking around, too, and can't make myself toss it. May need to get creative, myself. I don't have a smoke pit option, but maybe for something else?

You could use a charcoal grill as long as it's big enough for the roaster to be off to the side a bit...

Sigh. I only have a propane grill these days. Need to put on my thinking cap...
