This was posted on the "other site", as folks were talking about a stainless steel alternative to the aluminum thermowell kettle. I'll TRY to adjust it over here, taking out the referal's to Todd's post.

Chuckie - when you say, "pans", are you talking about the ThermoWell kettles? If so, do I understand you correctly - that the original tooling on which the Chambers ThermoWell kettles were made is in KC?Vita Craft never actually MADE thermowell kettles. HOWEVER, the dimensions I sent her were the EXACT SAME as two of their current or former "presses"--or whatever they call them--makes their pans the same size--and she thought they COULD be made. Evidently they (a) weren't doable (b) they didn't deem them profitable, or (c) she never followed up on it! I'm HOPING the LATTER, and we'll have to take a trip down there to find out! Stay tuned!!

The book we have (I bought off of eBay I think) was printed in 1948, right after "the BIG War". They were using the "times" to sell their wares too!!
Here is the verso side of the above:
As far as the ALUMINUM goes, here's what said book reads. I transcribed it below the picture, in case you can't read it:
*ALUMINUM FAVORS FOOD FLAVORS*
As a COOKING utensil material, aluminum is the most nearly perfect from every practical standpoint. No metal or material except gold, silver, platinum and soft copper will heat more rapidly or evenly!!! Cold-rolled to a mirror-smooth finish, VITA CRAFT Aluminum:
*imparts no taste-taint to foods---purest protection for flavors
*is light weight, less tiring to use---a boon to modern housewives
*IS EASILY CLEANED AND WHOLESOME FOR COOKING.
Our important health foods---green lettuce and cabbage, carrots, wheat, and apples...list high among foods containing portions of aluminum. Because aluminum ore forms 1/12 of the earth's top surface, scientists tell us that this mineral element is absorbed through growing root systems along with iron, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium---other important minerals. Because traces of aluminum deposit are found even in drinking water, well-known scientists assert that aluminum is present in almost every daily diet.
EATING IS BELIEVING
That VITA-CRAFT'S Vita Seal System of cookery promotes better health is no magic abracadabra...it's just plain common sense! Nature endowed foods with quantities of vitamins and minerals. When these vital elements are removed by ill-advised cooking methods, we have little left but starches and filler. Thus, we often feel stuffed, yet still hungry for something difficult to define. Your own doctor will advise you that wholesome, vitamin-rich food is the basis of strength and energy...for steady nerves and improved appearance. Picture you children growing sturdy and strong...or listlessly subservient to remedies and synthetic vitamin supplements. In a large measure, the choice can be yours. "

And THIS page sounds like it was indeed cut right out of one of Mr. John Chambers' Idlehour Books!! I believe it's even the same "female model" that John Chambers employed!!! LOL
Our resident historian/Chambers genius Pooka might be able to find this or a similar Vita Craft "Instruction Book" (note another similarity to Idlehour "Service Manual"!!) in a downloadable form for all to enjoy!!

Here shows what they were making that year ('48). We have the turkey roaster, Fruit & Vegetable press (it was Monkey's Mother's, the granddaughter said she'd never use it!), TWO griddles (one not pictured), complete 4 piece roaster set--although we are missing the cake tube insert that fits said roaster---large skillet (311 broiler in picture & 312 broiler cover) all three vegetable pans, and a coupla pie pans I found on eBay as well.

Again, this stuff sells like HOTCAKES in Japan per the gal @ Vita Craft, and there is even an item for sale on eBay from a Japanese guy right now! The new (ALL stainless steel) stuff is V-E-R-Y expensive, but you can find it on eBay at a lesser price often. And their seconds shop they have on-sight, you can get stuff for about 1/2 the suggested price!! And you STILL cannot buy this in a STORE to the best of MY knowledge, only from them or second hand. And remember for you still skeptical about aluminum, the stuff made since like 1941 is made outta STAINLESS STEEL. They are pretty cool, in that when the "correct" temperature is reached, it forms a "vita seal", and you can freely spin the lid around on the pan!
I WILL go back down there ASAP, and TAKE my pans w/me, and see if I can find out anything. The gal I talked to was more concerned about the latching mechanism and any patents that may be involved w/them, BUT if OTHER manufacturers were using the EXACT SAME LATCH, there must be SOME way around that!!
CHEERS!
