I have a pretty ridiculous number of vintage cookbooks and was digging around this morning on a couple that I recently found and came across a pretty cool site that I don't remember seeing before. It has a lot of pages of the cookbooks and pamphlets scanned and posted end even some complete ones. With Pepper up and running (almost a year now) we're really enjoying trying out different old recipes. And new ones for that matter, like the crockpot roast recipe we did in the T-well on Sunday that a friend had posted on Facebook. I was always a fan of crockpots until we had a T-well. I feel like we've taken a giant leap forward by using something from the past.
If you're interested, the website is oldrecipebook.com/.

Oh, neat site! I have a ridiculous number of cookbooks - mostly vintage - but I keep seeing more that I "need". I've already noticed a few on there that I don't have...

Those old ones are so awesome and you can really see the changes in recipes as technology impacted cooking. We found one when Dwayner was here last time that he got quite a kick out of, especially the etiquette part, like where they explained how a "proper" guest would handle finding something in their food that didn't belong there. Here's a hint: "Damn, look at the size of this cockroach in my soup" wasn't what they recommended. Shockingly, much of what I learned in the Navy wasn't even close to "proper".

"Waiter, what is this fly doing in my soup?" "I believe it is the backstroke, sir."

ha! Yeah, my brother-in-law learned that his Navy manners did not meet his mother's standards of etiquette after he was discharged. I believe she informed him of this after he requested that someone "pass the %$#@ing butter" at the welcome home dinner she had cooked for him. I wish someone had taken a photo of everyone at the table at that exact moment!
