This is one of Monkey's Mom old faves, got it while they were living down south. We always serve when making roast beef:
BBQ CARROTS
1/2# carrots, peeled & cut into 'sticks'(or more for crowd) 1-TBS garlic powder
SCANT 1/4 cup BBQ sauce 2 TBS catsup 3 TBS butter
JUST cover carrots w/H20, add garlic powder and boil until al dente. Drain water, put back in same pan over heat to dry out the water, shake pan to keep them from burning.
When sufficiently dry, add last three ingredients to the carrots, set back on low heat, stir until butter is melted. Sprinkle w/a little more garlic powder if you'd like.

By weak, do you mean scant? Or do you thin the sauce out with a bit of water?

These sound interesting! I would have never thought to combine bbq sauce and carrots, but I can see how they would get along. I'll have to try this soon.

Again, ALL to TASTE, if you're CRAZY about Gates BBQ Sauce, then slather those babies UP!!

Someone we gave the recipe to once said they let the drained/drying carrots get SUPER HOT/browned a bit, THEN added the last three ingredients so they sort of "caramelized".
Never tried, so entertain at your own risk!! CHEERS! Chuckie

I usually make carrots with a maple syrup glaze, so it will be good to try a more savory approach. Dinosaur Barbecue is my personal sauce of choice!

Well, it was bound to happen sometime. This is the first recipe of Chuckie's that I've tried and haven't loved... I made these last night, and both of us felt it just was not quite right for carrots. Maybe it was the kind of sauce? I'm so used to carrots with a sweet glaze, or just plain butter and salt. A tangy tomato based sauce overpowered them. Is the sauce you use more on the sweet side, Chuckie? Dinosaur is definitely not sweet.

I always grew up w/ SAVORY carrots--my Mother NEVER 'candied' them or anything. They were USUALLY just boiled, buttered & added S&P. First time I had carrots at a smorgasbord--which I THOUGHT were done like my Mam's---I was SHOCKED that they were SWEET! LOL We use Gates BBQ, which is along the 'warmer' side of sauces. Lastly, I ONLY make these when serving roast beef, so perhaps THAT makes a difference as well. I wouldn't think of serving them w/anything else--perhaps I should change the recipe to reflect that, MEA CULPA!
At any rate, guess I was overdue to "bomb"!! Thank GOODNESS it was NOT on a "main course", where you had to send out for Mickey D's to save the evening!

No worries, Chuckie. They didn't bomb, we ate them anyway, but they just weren't our thing. In latin the phrase is "de gustibus non disputandem est", meaning there is no arguing with tastes. You have posted so many absolutely excellent recipes that my admiration for you as a cook is secure!
And I just love that word, gustibus. Fun to write, fun to say!
