Has arrived!!! We took him to a cocktail party out to Monkey's Mom's old house for the neighbors--who Mother Marg would host EVERY Wednesday! We FINALLY got him back here, fed & to bed, so he's a happy camper! Monkey has to work tomorrow, so we'll be left to our own devices. PUH-LENTY of local antique/junque stores---not to mention my S.I.L.'s red "C"--so I'm fairly certain we'll stay "busy"!! Mach12, we have B-I-G shoes to fill, he's STILL singing the charms of you and herself's accommodations/neck of the woods! He said it's pretty spectacular there--the scenery only outdone by your hospitality!!! He best adjust himself to "gruel" in the 'cruel' morning!!! CHEERS! Chuckie

Wow! Finally found time to post again. Be prepared, it's a long one.
Washington in the Spring is like paradise, flowering trees and bushes everywhere in every color you can imagine. We took off from the stove work several times to enjoy a trip to the Oregon Coast as well as catching the antique and thrift stores in Lacey and Centralia. It was great times with great people and I feel honored to have been treated like family by Mach12, his wife and all his family, Thank You Sir!
Then, I had to head back. Left Mach12's house about 9:15 AM Sunday after coffee and goodby's and headed down I-5. Took Hwy 12 that runs south of Mt Rainier and Lord is it a beautiful drive! Then I hit the Yakima River Vally that's part of the "Fruit Loop" drive there in WA.....this planet will NEVER run out of grapes, cherries or apples! Miles and miles of orchards and vineyards that literally cover the mountains there.
I had no plans to push myself heading back east but when your not tired at 9:00 PM and you've already seen the scenery, you just keep on driving. I stopped in Salt Lake City Monday morning to pick up some chrome and then made it to central WY that night. Heavy rain, sleet and hail that night told me to just call it a night and stop. Next day it was heavy fog in Cheyenne (never saw the city itself) and rains again before Lincoln, NE where I stopped Tuesday night.
Yesterday I was flying South down I-29 when I spotted an antique mall called 'Jessie James' and boy did I come to a screeching halt. One of the best antiquiries I've ever seen. I texted Chuckie in Leavenworth to say "Dude, I hit antique heaven and I'm gunna be a little late to your house." He said that's cool but you might want to check out this other store too, exit 44 across from Menard's. Heck, that second place was better than the first! I literally went into an antique overdose not knowing what to buy or what isle I was on....and did I mention there was a Menard's across the hwy?! Menard's is like a handyman's mating call, you have to go and wonder the isles for at least an hour.
Before my head exploded I called it a day and headed towards Chuckie's about 3:15 PM yesterday. A few drinks last night, then we hit some antique and thrift stores this morning and then headed over to work on his SIL's red 90C. Now we're hunting down a set of oven door hinges to put on her stove and can't find them. Chuckie said "Your a** ain't leaving Leavenworth until I find those hinges and we get that door back on!" I heard murmurs about a ball, a chain and something about the lock on the basement door. Now I sleep with one eye open and I texted my boss in TX "I might be a day or two late."
Tomorrow it's work on the stove again, a return to those antique stores off I-29 and an invite to a graduation party tomorrow night for Chuckie's Nephew. I'm a little scared....these people are Irish and they'll likely drink me under the table....but darn if I ain't gunna try and keep up for the sake of Texas pride!
Anyway, that's about it. Just want to say it was great every step of the way and how great Chuckie and Mach12 are for letting me "couch surf" on my trip. You will always be welcomed at my home and can stay as long as you like!

Well, we sent the vagabond on down the highway about 10:30 this a.m. He was taking I-70 to I-35, BUT I made the mistake of mentioning Paxico KS w/their antique stores & "stove man", so methinks he'll make a detour there!! Called "Mill Creek Antiques", they 'specialize' in antique stoves. Here's a link to their website: www.millcreekantiques.com/index.htmlI also mentioned a powder coating place in Tonganoxie---which is where he gets on I-70. Just texted that he's still AT the powder coating place, "talking shop"! LOL Anywho, WE had a good time w/him, even though Susie's oven door is still in pieces!! He's gonna put hers back together too when he gets back in August. We never DID find the hinges he mailed; he forced me to clean out the garage---four bags of trash & a car load of recycle 3-hours later, STILL no hinges. Methinks they're @ my brothers where all the other "C" parts are!! Godspeed Dwayner, see you in August! CHEERS! Chuckie (& Monkey)

Dwayner sure doesn't let any moss grow under his feet - or tires of his pickup! We had such a great time, in spite of the unusually wet and stormy Spring we're having. Including the storm that ripped through here that snapped off massive Douglas Fir trees, flooded roads and made for an exciting attempt for us to head to the hardware store (never made it due to downed power poles and so on). Just before we left I snapped a couple of pictures of the clouds and said it looked like it was going to get nasty. Major understatement!
I have a stack of pictures that I need to sort through, including of a finally completed Pepper, our BZ that is going in our kitchen. I posted some preview pictures on the other site but ran out of time before we had to leave on a trip to camp and do some clamming and didn't get them posted here. All new chrome, porcelain enamel, and the first ever Dwayner upgrade of a BZ to C series burners, pans and grates. I also need to get some good pictures of the oven pilot safety valve install. Here are the ones of Pepper. As I mentioned in the other post, the wheels are just for moving around the shop and the color is a deeper red than the flash makes it look like. I'll use my Nikon with a diffuser on the flash when I post picture of her in her new kitchen so the color is correct.
This is the kind of stuff Dwayner makes happen when he shows up! And don't hesitate to turn him loose in the kitchen. I highly recommend his King Ranch Chicken!!

It is a great looking Chambers! We were going to get it down into the house / garage before I left but time and weather wouldn't permit. Yet, it's getting closer to it's new home in the kitchen every day!

I finally figured out how to make an album and move photos to it on the vgy.me photo hosting site. I just replaced the Photobucket "we want all your money" images (several posts before this one) with the pictures of Pepper I'd posted before and it worked great. Now I need to get all the albums set up like I had on Photobucket and get the photos moved and then start replacing the rest that I've done in posts over the past few years.
We're one step closer to getting Pepper installed. The gas plumbing is in and passed inspection so now we just need to get the tank set and hooked up and as soon as the tile is in we'll be ready to move her in. I'll start installing tile this week, so it's getting kind of exciting!

Man that's good news about getting the pictures back up, hope Pooka can utilize said sight for his picture hosting. When I return in the Spring I guess we'll be cooking some Tex-Mex meals on Pepper in your new kitchen.
I don't know how well known this dish is around the country but down here is pretty popular....King Ranch Chicken. Named after probably the biggest cattle ranch in Texas (north of Brownsville), it's a chicken casserole dish with corn tortillas, Rotel, cheese, cream of mushroom soup and chicken or turkey (pre-cooked). Easy to make and sooooo good. Leftover baked turkey or those rotisserie chickens from the grocer work great.

Yeah, I haven't poked around at that site to see how to make albums yet, but I've been posting pics there recently. I saw that mach12 was using it, so I thew up a few pics, because I was hungering for an outlet. Once I figure their site out, I'll start redoing my old posts, so I can say good riddance to Photobucket. It was nice while it lasted.
It's daunting to think I've got to go through my 1,576 posts to redo the pics.

Man Dwayner, that King Ranch Chicken you made when you were here last time was awesome. By the time you get here next time I might even have some idea of how to use Pepper and will be ready to learn. Marka was telling me about several things I need to try right off, like doing steel cut oats in the t-well, so I'll have some basic Chambers flunky skills. The boss says she's looking forward to staying out of our way and turning the kitchen over to us. You proved your kitchen skills so the expectations are up there now!
Pooka, The button for making a new folder worked great but getting the images into the folders was kind of clunky. When you upload an image it goes into the upload folder and then you have to copy the image to the folder you created. Then delete the image from the upload folder I assume or it'll get out of hand in a hurry. It looks like you should be able to select the image and move it but I couldn't get that to work so I opened the image, copied it to the folder, then closed the image. It might just be something like my security settings and might work great from a different computer. I feel the same way about trying to get my posted images updated. You've been at this way longer than I have so it has to be overwhelming for you. I figured I'd start with the ones I thought were the most important and then do the rest as I come across them.

"doing steel cut oats in the t-well". I'm not sure how he does it but I really like those steel cut Oats. I've never been a fan of oatmeal, probably because it was always served with too much butter or cinnamon or something. Well, recently my Mom was going to toss a new can she had bought for cooking because she grabbed the steel cut instead of the original. I told her I'd take it home and try it (oatmeal) one more time since it had been YEARS since I last tried it. WOW, really liked it with some salt, pepper, little butter and yes, garlic powder. It's more like a side dish the way I fix it but hey...at least I'm eating it again!

Isn't it strange how oats are always associated with the sweet side of things, but rice can be served sweet or savory and no one thinks anything of it. They're just a grain. No reason at all why you can't eat them with garlic if you like them that way! I never tried them with garlic, but I have done just salt and pepper with a poached egg on top. Like grits, only oatmeal. I don't even bother with turning on the gas in the well anymore. I just put the oats or grits with cold water in the well before I go to bed and in the morning it's breakfast. I use a one part oats to three parts water ratio. I don't like mine too soupy.

I was confused looking at the first link. It says to light the burner and then doesn't say to shut it off, only to let it cook with the gas turned off. Then looking at the second link it doesn't say anything about lighting the burner, which is how I understood was the way it's done.
I'm really looking forward to giving this a try. We really like stuff like oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits and so on around here and I'm pretty sure this'll be a hit.

He's B-A-A-A-A-A-C-K!!! Arrived seven-ish, fed him Monkey's homemade duck egg noodles w/roast beef & au jus, along w/homemade onion dill rolls & fresh picked green beans a friend gave us (cooked w/ham, bacon, onions & savory of course!!--Monkey's "night off"). He had a coupla beers, and is ready to turn in. We are too, so no argument from US!!
Hope to @ least "take a look" @ the Imperial tomorrow. Don't wanna push him too hard on first day, or I may have to get the chains hooked back up in the basement if I've frightened him...

Well, himself arrived just after 3:00 p.m. today. We had a brew, he unloaded a wee bit of stuff, then we went to Tenpenny for "Therapeutic Thursday" as my sisters'/nephew call it. Unfortunately, none of THEM showed UP (guess they heard he was in town!! LOL) So I had to serve papers in Blue Springs, MO, and "deputized" dwayner and hauled him w/me---nothing like a 1+ hour one-way road trip AFTER you've been on the road for TWO WEEKS! LOL
Got 'em served, came back to L-town and he bought us dinner @ TP, all's well that ends well. He & Monkey are chattering away in the living room whilst I prepare my return of service.
Now let's see what kind of mischief we can get into tomorrow...

Good to see Dwayner and Dugbug earlier this month, although we didn’t have much time, Dwayner being eager to get on the road to avoid bad weather (what a cold, snowy spring we’ve had - it was spitting ice). Luckily D and Dugbug had a chance the previous day to get into the Chambers weeds. We met at Bar Louis for a quick chat. Nice to hear that things at Dwayner’s mom’s place in Victoria are ok, after the flood. Dwayner, where are you now?

Well, "♫ the Gypsy rover went over the hill...♫, headed back to the warmth of Texas! According to my phone, it went to TWELVE last night--- BRRRRR!!! It was a blustering 19 when he hooked up the trailer. Himself was NOT amused!!! LOL I just wish things would've gone a little better for us, as he seemed a little down about the way things went. I told him NUMEROUS times it was NOT him, but the demonic STOVE that was culprit!! Perchance when the spring thaw comes, the Gypsy rover will come back UP the hill, and things will go well!!

Holy Smokes! Is that an M37 in the background? I don't see a For Sale sign dang it. My dream truck!!
Twelve is plenty chilly. We'd be shut down around here west of the Cascades. Eastern WA sees that and colder fairly often since the cold fronts don't care about border crossings and just whip down from Canada when they darned well please.
Even with all of the struggles you guys made good headway. After a break and hitting it fresh I'll bet it goes better when you get back to it.

Holy Smokes! Is that an M37 in the background? I don't see a For Sale sign dang it. My dream truck!! Uhhhhhhhhh, that was my Grandad's old place over there that burnt down, and the only thing left is that garage from say the 70's?... Anyhow, I can put a note under the windshield to inquire if you wish. It JUST showed up a day or two ago, and going by the sign on the side, it may be here for the Veteran's Day Parade--which they decided to have TOMORROW for some reason. Ours is like THEE largest Veteran's Day Parade west of the Mississippi I've been told, and this is the NINETY-NINTH consecutive year for it... Lemme know about the truck Steve! CHEERS! Chuckie
p.s.--I also forgot to mention that poor dwayner says he caught the FUNK that I'VE had the last nearly week!!! Said he slept like the dead last night on the road, got home & it was raining, so he was gonna sleep in his truck before going any further. I can attest that said 'funk' is some MAJOR stuff!!! And yes, I DID take the flu shot, s-o-o-o-o-o....

That flu shot is probably why your about over the gunk and I'm still sick as a dog. Taking meds but still dragging my butt. That snow on the top of my trailer made it all the way to OKC where it was still in the low 30's when I got there. Funny how 32° feels warm compared to 19° when I left Chuckie's...LOL! The Imperial has definitely given us a "run for the money" with all the twists and turns we came across these past two weeks but the end is near. We know what's needed to finish the panels and the broiler lift so I feel better about that now. The side brackets will be finished so we can get the backsplash together too. After that it's checking the thermostats and the pilot safety systems. Problems with those systems would suck but it would just be a matter of removing the tubing to replace what's needed. Things are looking good! I can't thank Chuckie and Monkey enough for the stay and the great hospitality. Thanks too for the new headlight, pretzels and all the other gifts during my stay. You guys are the best!!! Right now I think I'll crawl back under the covers and try to shake off this cold. Wish me luck.

Dwayner, you take care of yourself. Chuckie will never be able to get the Imperial done without you. You've become the Chambers knight in shining armor to us.
While you're laid up, you might check out this documentary "The Streamliner Case - Mercedes-Benz original". In it, they discover a frame in storage & have no clue what it is. After some research, they find some pictures, drawings & an engine, but that's about it. They have to recreate the rest of the car from scratch. You should be lucky to have more to work with on the Imperial than that. Even near the end when they think they're done, & they're doing a test the night before it's unveiling, something goes amiss when it breaks down. When they get it back to the shop, they discover a valve in the fuel system was installed backwards.
The car was built for a 1938 race that never happened. It ended up being loaned to Dunlap to test high speed tires, but after the war it's taken away by some American officers who like it. The trail goes cold after that until the frame is found. It's a tale of the days of hand crafted cars that were as much works of art as well as engineering masterpieces.
