My mother used to have a GE Calrod (made by Ekco) pressure cooker for the well in her electric range and though the pressure cooker is long gone I still have the booklet for it so have been watching for one for quite awhile. They use the Thrift Cooker design and even come with a thrift cooker lid so that you can use it as one. The dimensions are right so I figured I'd give it a try if I could find one. One finally popped up on eBay and the price was good so I bid on it and turned out to be the only bidder, so it's on its way to my house. Has anyone else used one of these in a Chambers? Here's a page from the booklet that shows the pressure cooker.

That is outstanding! I think Cheryl may have an actual Chambers PC. I would love one of those, but it's just what I need: another pressure cooker. I only have about six of them in various sizes, materials and configurations! I have one that looks very similar to your pic from England. It needs a new gasket which I discovered can be found at Indian stores, so if it fits I'll have to try it sometime. Please keep us informed!

I wonder whether the Indian stores might have a gasket that would fit the Wear-ever Chicken Bucket pressure cooker. My original Chicken Bucket's gasket has a real small crack on the outside edge - barely noticeable but anything at all is enough to tell me that I need to be looking for a replacement. There's a seller on eBay selling them for more than the Chicken Buckets sell for so that's there as a last resort. I found a second Chicken Bucket the other day and the gasket's great but is a bit stiff so I should probably be looking for a twofer.
I'm like you about pressure cookers. We have a stack of them (including two pressure canners). I even have one of the ones for microwaves and am surprised how well it works.
I'd love to find one of the Chambers Pressure Cookers but won't hold me breath on that. I'll post about it when I get it and verify the fit and again when I use it in the t-well. I sure hope that won't be much longer.

Ok, Vaporvac, help me out here. What's an Indian Store? Is that a thing? Or is it a store that sells food stuffs from the Indian Subcontinent? I kind of think this must be a duh question. But the Indian Grocery near here doesn't stock things like gaskets. Or maybe they do and I didn't ask. . . ? Do Indians use pressure cookers? Tickled to learn something entirely new. . . .

Evangeline, I go to an Indian subcontinent grocery store called Patel Bros. among others It's a large modern grocery store. Next to it is another one that has Prestige Pressure cookers. This is the Indian name for my English pressure cooker where the gasket rests in a different place than one's typical American cooker. Check to see if they carry PCs. I also bought the milk boiler I've mentioned prior in which I make my yogurt etc, that avoids boil-overs at the same store. It's a double-walled SS pot that one fills with water with a whistle that goes off when it reaches temp. I love that pot. Indians are BIT TIME PC users for dals, rice, idlis and all manner of things. Mach12, I have a couple of the Nordicware pressure cookers and LOVE them. I got mine at St. Vinnie's and ordered new gakets, etc. from NW in Minnesota. It was so much fun hearing that accent and they were so friendly.

My Calrod/Ekco pressure cooker arrived and it's pretty nice but I wouldn't call it a perfect one for a Chambers or anything. The outside diameter of the top lip is just slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the t-well so it sits all the way down onto the rack. I think this one is smaller than the one my mother had. The "Finger Tip Knob" in the center of the cross bar sticks up about 1/4 inch too high for the t-well lid to go on (which I don't think you'd want anyway) but the regular flat lid is fine. The flat lid is different than the one in the picture above so may not be original but is a perfect fit It's smaller than a regular Calrod Thrift Cooker. No problem there but other than freeing up one of the three cooktop burners when cooking a large meal I don't see a lot of advantage compared to a regular pressure cooker. I'm a bit more excited to use it as a regular cook pot in the well since it has such a nice, heavy base but will definitely try it out with a small roast. I'm working on rearranging my shop and had to lean over a compressor and stuff to try the fit in my blue 90C so need to move a few things before I can get some pictures. Hopefully later today.

Thanks Vaporvac. There's a small Indian grocery about a mile from my house. Will poke my nose in there & ask. Interested in the milk boiler too. Finally going to make yoghurt! & rice pudding. PS: I really, really don't think our thrift stores are as jam-packed with interesting stuff as y'alls. Pixburgers are notoriously cheap & seem to hang on to anything that may work or do something, or even just sit there quietly. ;-) Long ago I tried to take an Indian cooking class & it fell through. Then I worked with an Indian woman and she said forget it, it's too time consuming & Indian food is cheap, just get takeout. But I do love it when I have it.
