This is an old watering can we found in the barn, and I've been using it for a few years. Yesterday the light caught it just right and I saw that it has the word "Savory" printed on the spout. I never noticed it before. I like it because it is smaller and has a nice directional spout that makes it easy to water hanging plants and small pots. Apparently, like Lisk, they made more than just roasters.

I have a Bread Box made by Savory. Maybe from the 1910s or 1920s - can't remember. I found a screenshot of this ad once. My bread box still has the integral bread board and crumb catcher, but if it ever had a brad knife, it's long gone. Still, I love the old thing.

That looks like a beauty! Homemade bread is such a different animal than store bought, isn't it? Today's tasteless, plastic wrapped fluff would never inspire such a neat thing, or such an effusive write-up, either. It's fun just to read that and put yourself back in that time.

I know, right? Who would ever need to make a nice bread box for Wonderbread, when it really ought to just go in the trash? I wish that I could find the Savory recipe book that is mentioned.
I love the old ads. And I love this silly old bread box. I forgot to mention that it also has its original woven wire bread rack that works great as a cooling rack.

Chipper, I was all excited at my breadbox, buttery yellow with a chrome front (matches Patience beautifully), but that wire rack is dandy!

Now, now, Kellyjo40. Your breadbox is nice too! I've read the copy of that ad a couple times now. "Saves Steps--All bread serving operations can be done right at the Savory Bread Saver. A keen bread knife is in a handy slot." I just love it. Like making a sandwich is one step down from planning the invasion of Normandy.

Exactly, nana! It reminds me of the old Hoosier adverts.

Yes! Must have been the same ad agency. Or else that earnest tone is a relic of its era. Nowadays, snark seems to be what sells...

They actually HAD a quality product to advertise. That might be the difference.

At some point in 1944, Lisk and Savory combined. How do I know? I looked it up! As a bonus add on to my GE lazy susan fridge aquisition, I got a brand new, mint condition Lisk-Savory washtub, along with a heavily used wash basin. The washtub is an oval, 18"x13" and 5" high. The sticker looks like it was put on yesterday. Here are both of them, top view: and side view: I'm going to use the basin as a camping dishpan, but I don't know what I'll do with the tub. As I mentioned on the other site, I'd hate to be the one to chip it or scratch it after all these years, but it needs to be useful. Any ideas? Something not too strenuous, I guess, so it can stay pretty!

And that label. . .
To hold magazines or rolled up hand towels in the bathroom?

Good idea, but the bathroom is too small--nowhere to put it where it won't be in the way. I had thought to use it to harvest vegetables if I can't think of anything better. I have a basket that I use, but it's not quite big enough, and often things get piled dangerously high. But that a part time gig at best...I couldn't pass it up though!

So this must be my month to find oddball Lisk items. I also could not, for $5, pass this up at a house sale: The tag on it said "old diaper pail" and probably that's what it is, but it will find a new life as my compost bucket, replacing the smelly plastic one I have now that never rinses clean. I figure even smelly compost is better than smelly diapers, so the pail can feel that it is taking a step up in the world!
