When this site lost any appearance that it was being cared for a few years ago, I kind of stepped up and became our defacto spokesperson interacting with the ProBoards Support Team to get the search engine issue sorted out for us. After that I got myself "appointed" with admin. privileges by the previous caretaker here so that I could make sure this site was maintained and continued to live and breathe. I wasn't able to make that happen with our sister site, though I did try. At the time, I got that the impression from Tux that maintaining the vintage chambers site required significant programming skills, none of which I possessed, so I put out a call for help from other members. Unfortunately, no one else was able to come forward, so all I could do was hope for the best. If any of you have a way to contact the original members associated with the vintage chambers site, I would very much appreciate it if you could pull any and all strings you might have access to. Vintage Chambers was an incredibly valuable resource, and I very much hope that it can be resurrected. Today I sent an email to Tux-sf's email that is listed on his profile, so keep your fingers crossed. I had very much hoped to avoid the possibility of our sister site going dark, but, unfortunately, it's not something I had any control over. If I don't hear from Danny, we may need to start over again. I'm sorry everyone. Chipper: I emailed the one I used back in '13; it didn't come BACK, but haven't heard from him since I only sent 10/10. I tried the ORIGINAL site the other day, and it was GONE; now it is back up & running, so maybe he's on it. Start keeping an eye on "Users Online in the Last 24 Hours". I saw tux_sf name on there last time, and knew he was "back"... IF I hear anything, will let you know... CHEERS! Chuckie

chipperhiker, I just want to say how much we all appreciate the time you've given to maintaining THIS site. It's scary when one thinks it coupld all go "Poof!" in the blink of an eye. I'd love to get that host site somewhere safe and be able to search it. Odd that function doesn't work.

Certainly not your fault Chipperhiker. I remember the discussion about needing someone who could program but don't remember what happened from there. My programming is limited to several college classes and that's pretty ancient so I'm far from an expert there but I was a system administrator of a Xenix based system and later of a Microsoft system so might be able to stumble through it. I guess it depends on what he means when he says it takes programming skills. If you do hear back from him I'd certainly be happy to talk to him and see if it's something I could do.

THANKS for posting that link, 'cuz IF you google "Chambers Stove" now, there is absolutely NO mention of this website WHATSOEVER, so I dunno HOW one goes about rectifying THAT!! Bet Todd is LOVING all the extra traffic, now that this site is essentially "dead" to the outside world that had no prior knowledge of it.. CHEERS! Chuckie

Chuckie Seems to me that the Forum link used to go to the old forum but if it did it's not working anymore. Can't guarantee that I'm not confused but it seems I used to use that link to dig through all the old posts. There was quite a wealth of info there.

Does anyone have any ideas how we might get a bit more attention for our site here?
And thank goodness the vintage chambers site is back up and running. I have no idea what happened, but I am incredibly thankful. AS Chuckle said, get everything you can from it, just in case...

For those of us old codgers unfamiliar with the ways of the web, this disappearing & reappearing act may be perfectly explainable. Since the old site is archived & no longer active. This might have been simply a maintenance issue causing Google algorithm to loose track of it briefly. I don't understand it enough to explain it away.
It's good that it reappeared. I haven't looked at in a while, but it's interesting to read how little the group knew about the subject. They were so ignorant of so much. There are the odd tidbits of info that still make it useful. Their exuberant zeal is obvious, but they'd still dive right into the deep end. They did good to know a few models like the A, B & C. We now know there are dozens & dozens of models going back to 1912. The oldest ad I have from that year says they had twenty sizes & styles at that time. There were eleven series of stoves before the model A. We have come so far & it's the web that's made it possible. As much as I chaff at new things, some have their beneficial uses.

With the old site having gone away it looked like the manuals were lost but Pooka found an archive of them and posted about it in a separate thread. I don't know how long they'll be available there but it's great that they're still available. Here's the link Pooka posted (still worked a few minutes ago): Chambers Manuals and Info Archive

The link to THIS site is now " DEAD" as well!!! I tried to google it so I could get to the manuals on this site; three or more pages into google, no link!! I dunno if Tux didn't renew it, or what?! They'll be ZERO new members w/o a link to this site. I wish he'd turn it over to chipperhiker, if he's not gonna stay up on it... *sigh* CHEERS! Chuckie

I wonder whether that's a google thing? The search sites seem to be getting worse and worse about returning results from commercial sites before they do info sites and blogs. I use a search engine that's kind of obscure but is what my old job recommended, duckduckgo.com/. As far as I know it's still the best option for security and privacy, though none of them are secure or private. I cleared my cookies and then ran a search using the term "Chambers Commune" (without the quotes) and it came right up.

Hello all, Is there still an active site where a repository of all things Chambers has been created?

I'm sorry guys. I feel like I failed at this, but I also don't feel like I ever had much of a chance to save the literature link. I needed the original archivist to contact me, and he never did. I know it was a lot of work to lose. I was one of the original literature contributors, too, so I get it.
Maybe we can put our heads together and reconstruct something? I have my original scans that I contributed way back when, and I downloaded pretty much every document posted. We just need a place to put them. Any ideas?
I also have an archived copy of the old board before it was moved and then split.

You didn't fail at anything, but did the best you could to keep it up and running for quite some time. How are you doing these days? I've missed you on here.

My goodness Chipperhiker, it certainly isn't your fault by any means! We really appreciate what you took on to keep the Commune site going!
When it looked like we might be losing the site and info I downloaded all of the literature too, so if we do come up with something I have all of the literature. I'm sure there's a site out there that will provide the space as long as they can run ads, which I don't mind as long as it's not out of control. The problem is finding one that's safe and I'm so out of touch with that industry since I retired that I don't know the good and the bad ones anymore. The IT specialists from my team have retired too but might still know of some good ones so I'll see what I can find out about sites to post the info.
If anyone knows of a site that might be good I can have it checked out.

Thanks, guys. I'm doing well. I've had couple tough years, but am doing a lot better these days. Sorry I haven't been much of a presence, but I have checked in every few days to make sure things are ticking along here. I'm still in love with my kitchen goddess, Miss Agatha, and still quite happy to help here at the Commune. I should probably get my avatar back up and running, huh? I never fixed it after Photobucket took my images hostage. Any thoughts, or recommendation, or pointers would be most welcome, mach12.
