I am a new Chambers owner in the MD/DC area. Mine is in pretty good shape, I think. I am looking for someone to check it for safety and give me some operating tips. Any references are appreciated!

Hello! Welcome to the wonderful world of Chambers stoves! There are plenty of handier more experienced people here than I who will be able to answer all your questions, I'm sure. But I have a question for you, if you don't mind me asking, did you get the Chambers that was on the Baltimore craigslist site that looked like it had never been used with the pots still in their original boxes? If so, then I am so glad it found a good home!

Since I'm clear over on the west coast I don't know of a lot of options but there are a couple that I know of who can either help or point you to someone. Don Mattera, who is on this site, owns and runs Mattera Stove Works in Rhode Island. Since I've dealt with him and he has been great, I'm comfortable recommending him. His link is: Mattera Stove Works. Another who I've seen advertise and is familiar with Chambers stoves calls herself The Stove Lady and is in New York. I've never had any dealings with her so have no idea how her prices and work are but she seems to have a good background and experience. Her link is: Belgrove Appliance - The Stove Lady. Not right in the area you specified but a heck of a lot closer than any options we have in our neck of the woods. N. California is the closest that I'm aware of for us.

Thanks Chuckie - I hadn't heard of him before. I'll send him a note. Homestead stoves, which is probably 15 miles or so from me, has done a couple of Chambers but their big thing is wood burners. They did the commercial Magic Chef that the guy I bought the last BZ from had and did a really nice job but gas stoves have always been a secondary thing for them.
Thanks again for the info!

When I first started looking for a Chambers I contacted The Stove Lady at Belgrove Appliance, and my impression of her was she really was only interested in doing full restorations. ( Reporcelaining, re-chroming, etc.) I'm in NY too, so she was on my short list of people to call if I needed work done. I asked if she could give me a ball park figure on bringing a stove in typical used condition up to clean, good working order, and she was not only unwilling to do that, but a little curt about it as well. I got the feeling that she has so much high end business that she's not interested in someone who doesn't need a showroom new stove. When I contacted Don Mattera with the same question, he gave me a figure I could work with and was a lot nicer about it. And he's a heck of a nice guy in person too. And he's in Rhode Island, not too much farther, and in a prettier area than Yonkers, let me tell you! There's plenty to do if you want to take a stove to him and make a weekend out of it, and then do another weekend when the work is done.
