Hello!
I've finally figured out how to change our access to the recipe sub boards, and I want to let you all know that we can now post our recipes directly to the appropriate sub boards. For instance, if you've got a cake recipe you want to share, then go ahead and create a new thread in the Sweets category. Everyone will be able to respond, post variations, etc..
Since the whole cooking and recipes section takes up a lot more space on our front page now, I moved it down to keep the more popular categories front and center. I also renamed the main Cuisine section "The Recipe Box," just for a bit of fun.
Eventually I will try to get the existing recipes that were posted in the old "cuisine" main category (now named What's Cooking?) moved to the most fitting recipe categories so that we can keep this section a bit more general. I started doing this already, but there are some threads that are a bit hard to sort out.
Please let me know what you think. My goal was to make this entire section more useful and accessible. Questions, comment, and feedback all welcomed and hoped for.

Oh, good. I was a bit concerned that I'd overdone it a bit. I also went ahead and started redistributing the existing recipe posts as best I could. If anyone spots a recipe post that I should still move, let me know.
Are there any other changes you'd like to see happen? Any missing categories/ altered recipe category suggestions?

So glad to see this. I'm a newbie and all ... I mean ... I haven't even tried cooking in the oven or Thermowell yet (still adjusting bits) ... but I was wondering if there was a conversion chart of sorts that a person could consult for translating conventional cooking times/temperatures to CWTGTO times/temperatures. I did think of making one myself from the recipes in the 'Idle Hour' and 'Menu of the Month' cook books ... but no point double-doing it if someone else already has. With any luck, you should be getting a nice little assortment of vegetarian recipes from me once I've converted them!

This is really nice, chipperhiker. This was my only gripe about the site before. I always did post directly to the sub-category, but I think it was confusing to many and made looking for recipes hard. Bekah, I think most of us just use the Chambers recipes as a jumping off point for timing with conventional recipes. It's a bit trial-and error because the different models do cook differently especially the Twell/baker of the earlier models vs the later C and Ds. However, go for for it if you like!

No conversion chart has been made that I know of, and probably for the reasons vaporvac mentioned. If yo can come up with something, I'm sure that a lot of people would appreciate it, even as a starting point for their own experimentation.

Well, I finally managed to finish wading throughout the What's Cooking section and moved out as many recipe threads as I could find. If I missed anything you'd like to see moved, let me know.

I'm just glad to see this site reinvigorated after hardly any activity . The "upgrades" did encourage me to spend more time here as I can now post pics directly as attachments.

I can't claim any part in that particular part of the upgrade, but glad it's working better and happy you hung in there.

Yes, when the search function went south, the pic attachment was added as a proboards upgrade. For me that's what encouraged me to start posting here again in the hopes people would come back. I'm so glad YOU hung in there and stepped up to fix the search function and keep everything else current. I think any new people wouldn't have bothered searching through each section.

Well, I'm hoping that we all can help breathe a collective breath of fresh air into the place! We've had a lot more guests recently, so I have high hopes for us yet!! : )

I'll look into it ASAP, Cinn, but can you give me some more specifics? You shouldn't have any trouble starting a new thread with a recipe, but that's not what you were trying to do, plainly. Which thread were you trying to add to? Nice looking proto-sauerkraut, by the way. I put up two big crocks last week. 100 pounds of cabbage in one and 30 pounds in the other, with come carrots thrown in for interest. Hoping for good things. My garden was a bit, um… prolific, this year, and there's on;y so much fresh cabbage one can eat before it goes south, so kraut it is! We used a food processor, I'm sorry to admit, not the nice cabbage mandolin you've got. My fingers and arms were happy about it, though.

When going into the vegetable, fruits sub board there is no tab in the upper right for new thread. I click on sauerkraut or any other thread and there is no tab for reply in the upper right either. I don't find this feature missing in the other categories just the vegies and fruit one. The cabbage cutter was my Great Grand parents dated 1899. Was a wedding gift it think. Just sharpened the blades today so it works nice. Had to buy the cabbage, no garden here. The tomatoes are still green and the chard didn't even grow. Cilantro I got!

cinnabar's issue came with Pro-boards upgrade. Of course, before that we couldn't directly add a pic as an attachmentIt's been a problem, at least for me so i used to post to the next nearest topic. I found it so strange that i also couldn't post pics only to that heading. i figured it was some anti-veggie person at work! the chopper is amazing. My mom had a table that we used for magazines that was for chopping cabbage. i'll have to see if i can get that It still had the blade, but she temporarily covered it ove. Now i just use my 1950s shredding attachment for my modern KA.

Sorry about that! I thought that I had fixed all of the sub board permissions weeks ago, but apparently the veggie category escaped my notice. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Cinnabar I had to log in under my forum-checking pseudonym account to see what was really going on.
I can move your posts over to the veggie category if you want me to, Cinn, but it would probably be a lot more coherent if you could set up a 'kraut thread over there yourself.
To everyone: Please let me know if there are any other glitches that you come across, and please continue to let me know if you have any suggestions for the forum structure, in general. As for myself, I'd love to change the default avatars! I may make that my next project, but it seemed a bit daunting when I was looking around at options a few weeks ago.

Sounds good, I was going to add the photos to another of the kraut threads, so if you want you can move them.
