Hello!
As I'm sure you have all been aware, our search function has been broken for quite a while now. I've been going back and forth with the good folks at the ProBoards support group for a few weeks, and they told me today that the system here has just been upgraded and should now be functioning properly.
I've just done a few basic searches, and have had some really great results, but I really want to get feedback from more people. I've already tried searching some basic terms like "orifice cap" and "Lisk roaster" in any posts made at any time in the past, and that has been successful, so I am feeling cautiously optimistic.
If you get a chance, could you please run a few searches to evaluate the search functionality, and then reply to this thread to let me know how it's working for you? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is finally straightened out, but the more you look, the more you find, as they say. I'm hoping that you can help me find any more bugs in the system.

chipperhiker - Thank you for getting the search function fixed! I joined both Chambers forums in February but have spent most of my time on the other site just because I couldn't search for anything here. I've tried a bunch of random searches this morning and it seems to be working great. I'm looking forward to spending many hours reading through the old posts here.

I can't tell you how glad I am to hear that! Thanks, Melissa. I'm happy you're here, and were willing to stick it out until this got fixed.

Chipperhiker - Thanks for getting this function back up and at least doing something. I did a few quick searches using words on things I had researched or posted about to test it and am getting results on some but not all that I thought I would. I looked back at my posts to see whether I had actually used the terms I thought I had (might be confusing with other sites, emails and so on) and they're there but the search doesn't always pull them up. Since the search appears to be the same as on the other site I did the same as I do over there and entered a term or word that would give the most returns and then if there were too many I filtered by entering additional info in other blocks of the search page.
Examples are: I entered "Model A" (without the quotes) in the All Words block and got a "No posts were found" response. Same with entering "Chambers A". I then entered "Broiler Linkage" in the All Words block and got 1 page of posts.
I then tried the "At Least One" option and entered just the word "Broiler" and got back 29 pages of posts. I then tried "Incinerator" and got the "no posts were found" response. I was pretty sure that I had referred to the incinerator on my Chambers Model A so clicked on the "Participated" button at the top right of the page and found several posts by me and others that had the terms or words that the search function gave a "No Results" response when searched on.
From what I'm seeing they've made headway but it still isn't giving us the whole picture.

This is pretty standard for most forums. I did a search for "incinerator" and got a whole page of results, including several of your posts. This morning I searched for "thermobaker" and got zero results but when I tried it a few minutes later, I got multiple pages. I've noticed the same thing on the other site so I think it is a general proboards issue, not just this forum.

I've found that glitch also, melissaf. I'm doing some exploring now. Thanks for the 3 words tip. I didn't know that. You're a gem for taking this on. I liked the upgrade that allowed me to post pics etc directly as on the "other" site. I've read all the old posts just by going through each one, when I first got my B. I've been doing the same for the Cs. It's great that one can view up to 100posts per page instead of the 5 it changed to at the rangers' site. That's annoying. These are the two main reasons I visit here more often. (And to chat with those who only post here! ) Update: So far so good! I can search my own posts again! (And didn't have to put in three(3) words.)

That's interesting. When I first started using the search function a few months ago I tried typing "A" and it told me that the search term had to have at least 3 characters but it didn't say that EACH word had to be at least three characters. Model A, for instance, is a term and it contains more than 3 characters so it would seem to be correct. When I entered the terms "Model A" or "Chambers A" it didn't indicate a problem and did the search. You'd think that if it told me about it in the one case that it would in the other, or that it would disregard the "A" part and search on the part that met the requirements. Since it has been broken most of the time that I've been on the site it looks like I'm going to have to play with it a bit.

Has anyone else had a chance to do some searching? Have you had good results? Any issues?

I've tried a bunch more searches and it seems to be working fine, even the searches I posted about earlier are working! So much info that I'm going brain-dead (kind of a short trip for me).
