Hi Everyone! After the concern a few of us have expressed in the past about the lack of an active administrator within our forum, FatFutures has decided to designate another person for that role. I've been tapped to help, and am now a second site administrator. I've been a member since this group was first founded in 2007, and am really happy to be able to give back in any way I can.
This is all new to me, and I haven't had much time yet to see what it all means and what I can get done, but I'd like to take this opportunity to ask you all for some input. Beyond the very obvious search function difficulties we've been having (and that I am still trying to get sorted out), are there any areas where you feel we could improve our forum, or any special requests for things you'd like to see?
I'm hoping that everyone will be patient with me as I figure things out. I'm really looking forward to helping keep this an active, informative, and supportive community.
-Jenn

Congratulations. I love reading your old posts and especially those from the hostboard.Maybe we could ad a post linking to that permanently that stays at the top. You've been a contributor and cheerleader forever so I'm glad you FINALLY have a stove up and running. I'm thinking about changes, but I like things as they are for the most part.
OK, I just remembered one thing that I don't like, but it's really not easily changed and is more user "error" than a forum issue. That's the recipe section where everyone posts under the general recipe section rather than the sub-file. It just makes it more difficult to look for a specific kind of food. I'm not sure why they ever included that section, although I guess some thing are hard to categorize.
I'm also not too sure about putting "Vegetarian" under vegetables, but that's a tough one. I sometimes use meat "analogs" so any dish can be made vegetarian, but I'm noticing there are only two recipes under that section anyway! I vote for the status quo for a while. Getting the search function fixed is my only real concern.

One thing I might suggest is the old click on the member's NAME. You could then go back like TWO-HUNDRED POSTS, which would USUALLY get you what you were looking for. I mean, if I knew I was the one that posted it, I could use that feature to find it. Same thing w/the long-absent Berlin (God-love-her-hope-she's-well!!). If I was certain BERLIN posted it (albeit long ago!), I could go to their name and avail myself of that function. Again, THANK YOU for taking this on!! You are TRULY a SAINT to do this!! CHEERS! Thanks, guys!
I have no intention of changing anything that we all like, and nothing is going to happen at all until I figure out what the heck I'm doing. I have no big plans, and I like things as they are generally, too. I really just want to be here as a resource for everyone, and to be able to provide some kind of continuity for the group.
Eventually I do think a few tweaks will be in order for the recipe section. It has never functioned quite as well as we all hoped. I'm thinking that members should be able to post recipes directly to a subcategory and then just use the general category for a kind of "show and tell" of what we're cooking or to ask about general cooking technique questions, etc.. The original idea for the recipe subcategories was that the moderator would move the specific recipes that showed up into the appropriate subcategories as needed, but that never seemed to work out quite as planned. It also didn't take into account all the good comments/variants that are suggested in the responses that follow the original post. I can't think of any reason why we shouldn't be putting our recipes up as a new thread within the appropriate subcategory right from the start. As for changes to specific subcategories, we can think about that as we go.
Chuckie, I'm a little confused. Tell me if I am seeing a different set of conditions than you are. When I look at posts, the name of the member who made the posting is shown above their avatar. It is an active link. I can click on that name and will be directed to the member's profile, from which I see a link to "view this member's recent posts," giving me the info you're describing. Do you have something different, or is there somewhere else that you used to click the member's name to go looking for old posts?
When I click on your name, for instance, and then click through your profile, I can see 34 pages of your old posts, all the way back to 2009. What am I missing?
