Was STARVING for meatloaf today, and it was 90+ here in ol' LV today. I scrubbed up some spuds while I turned the oven on to 500, wrapped them in foil, then threw them in the oven. In the interim, I put my meatloaf together. I digress here--kitchen temp was 76.0 when I started. Got meatloaf put together, put loaf pan in oven. All in all, total gas time on was maybe 35 - 40 minutes max. When I went back in to turn oven off, kitchen was 76.3!!! Whatta stove, eh?!! To have meatloaf in summer w/o heating the kitchen up to 90!!! CHEERS! Chuckie

That's awesome, Chuckie. And the meatloaf looks good, too. Can't wait to be able to run my own such experiments!

Yep, gotta love that CWTGTO! Your meatloaf looks great, but now I'm craving a meatloaf sandwich.
The only thing that really seems to heat up the kitchen is the broiler/griddle. I lose interest in using it much over the summer. It's great in the winter, though.

And that's where the backup Sunbeam waffle maker with griddles comes into play! (just in case you like other old stuff) I use mine for waffles, of course, but it does an awesome job at making paninis or as a griddle for pancakes when opened up flat. It can cover a lot of the broiler/griddle's functionality in the summer without all the heat buildup, and it's COOL (to use and look at with all that pretty chrome). Sorry, I digress. Must take myself back to my stove.

Yep, gotta love that CWTGTO! Your meatloaf looks great, but now I'm craving a meatloaf sandwich. We had two very dear friends who were run down and killed by a guy who had a grudge against the husband--TRAGIC!!!--may they rest in peace, poor souls! Anyway, she (Theresa) told me one time when I was bitchin' that I LOVED meatloaf but NOT all the work involved in making it. She told me what she did was buy enough fixings to make THREE or FOUR meatloaves. Shape to desired size, then FREEZE (raw) all but the one you're gonna cook for supper. I have been doing that ever since, and now have another 'identical' meatloaf in the freezer, awaiting another later summer "hunger pang"... This would also work for single peeps (i.e. pooka, 58limited, etc). You could easily make them in mini loaf pans and freeze them. CHEERS! Chuckie

I *really* want to keep it! I do have an old 1940s Kenmore waffle maker/griddle that I use. I haven't used it to make pancakes, but it makes a mean Cuban sandwich and wonderfully crisp waffles!
Chuckie, that is so terribly sad about your friends.
Thanks, it was indeed! They only lived like FOUR houses from the Eagles Lodge, and were walking home. The barkeep did not drink, and offered them a ride that night as she was taking someone else home, but they refused, saying "they needed the fresh air & exercise". The guy knew their routine, and was watching from about a block away for them to leave, then bore down on them. The poor bartender & her passengers SAW THE WHOLE THING, and there was nothing they could do to save them!!!!!!!! Guess the kid had borrowed money from the guy a LONG time ago, and the man he ran over had dunned him about it @ a bar downtown, and the kid didn't like being "dissed" in public. His wife was killed instantly, he hung on for nearly a month but was finally declared brain dead and thanks in large part to a bunch of us Eagles friends stating they had both said less than a week before that should they ever wind up in a "terrible accident", they did NOT want to be kept alive artificially. That eased their kids' minds when they had to authorize the removal of life support. Another reason that ALL should have a "Living Will" or "Declaration" that should you wind up in the same predicament, no-one HAS to make that decision, as you already HAVE. Here is part of what is in the document Monkey & I had drawn up by my boss the barrister: " If at any time I should have an incurable injury, disease, or illness certified to be a terminal condition by two physicians who have personally examined me, one of whom shall be my attending physician, and the physicians have determined that my death will occur whether or not life-sustaining procedures are utilized and where the application of life-sustaining procedures would serve only to artificially prolong the dying process, I direct that such procedures be withheld or withdrawn, and that I be permitted to die naturally with only the administration of medication or the performance of any medical procedure deemed necessary to provide me with comfort care." There is more to it, but this is the gist of the document. Chuckie

What a terrible story. You are absolutely right about the "Living Will" directive. Everyone should have one. It eases everyone's mind to know how to proceed in a really bad situation.

I can't comprehend how someone could do such a thing. I hope the <insert expletive here> was brought to justice.
A medical directive is another thing we have talked about but never have put on paper. Another thing for the official (and getting longer daily) "to do" list!

I can't comprehend how someone could do such a thing. I hope the <insert expletive here> was brought to justice.! Well, it gets even ' weirder'--the guy that did it, his brother was married to the couple's daughter!! Now don't think THAT didn't cause tension in the family. The son of the murdered duo wanted the MAXIMUM sentence & wanted murder one; the daughter just wanted the whole thing over and behind them, as--needless to say--it put a TREMENDOUS strain on their marriage. The County Attorney didn't think he could convince a jury of first degree murder, even with folks from the first bar testifying that he was gonna "F*** him up and make him sorry" or something of the same. I believe the CA went with vehicular manslaughter or something like that--don't remember now. Murderer got 10 or 12 years before the first possibility of parole I believe. Doesn't seem harsh enough to me anyways... Chuckie

Oh my, truth really is stranger than fiction. No, that isn't a harsh enough punishment, but I know that jury trials are tricky.

I've been telling people for years, who needs fiction, I've got the news. I've read far too many news stories of the sick, twisted & bizarre that you couldn't sell as fiction because they were so unlikely, yet they were true stories.

Even stranger, the guy who did it, his little brother died yesterday in a motorcycle accident, so you know that family is hurting. Yea, I just saw that in the paper!! Don't know them personally--know who they ARE--but they say his folks are SUPER nice. I see them @ Mass sometimes, and his Mom has aged about 20 years, and never smiles anymore, poor soul!
