Well just out smarted myself again. Chambers Model 4741 with Thermo-Dome was on eBay for $500 and is located only 120 miles from me. I had this great idea that if it did not sell at $500 that the seller would lower the price a little and relist it. If it was relisted for around $400, I would buy it, bring it home, remove the T-dome and resell the stove for $250 -$300. I would be a happy camper and have a good T-dome for around $150. The seller relisted the stove for $2,000 ……so much for plans of mice and men The 2942 – I’m waiting for more photos stairs and stove. I’m scared that I will not be able to get the stove apart to the point of getting out of the basement. I already know that these stoves can be real bears to disassemble. May be I need to talk to someone that has a 3942 or 4942 to get some ideas for this project. If I can remove the upper section of the stove (burners, oven and broiler) from the lower that would make upper part the same as a 3742 without legs and that can be moved. Getting it apart is the big question. If I have to remove the back wall from behind the cooking burners, I may need to disassemble the inside of the over to get to some of the screws (been there – done that). The other thing is I never seen in person a 2972, 3972 or 4972. “no good things come without hard work”

I bet no one buys that stove at $2,000. People get an inflated idea of what the old stoves are worth by seeing examples of completely restored stoves for sale for $6,000. So they think their unrestored stove has GOTTA be worth $2,000. Reality will eventually settle in to their way of thinking.

Well... complete disassembly seems like the way to go. So much rechroming, anyway, right? Best of luck.

Congrats, Ronruble! Such a lovely old piece of work! No doubt you'll have other descriptions of it by the time you get it out, but I'm sure, with your know-how, it will (at some point) be 'lovely' in your mind, too!

Everybody - I am Not buying this stove - There are a number of reasons why I had second thoughts about buying it - including logistics; health reasons; available space in kitchen; time away from home getting the stove and others BUT not because of the condition of the stove. It is great! Outside of the stove is just dirty and will clean up nice. Ovens are in great shape. I may be helping the guy sell the stove – website photos, etc.

That's too bad. I understand though. It's going to take a lot of effort & ingenuity just to get it out of that basement, before you even start to restore it. This wouldn't be a project for the faint of heart. This stove belongs in a grand old home with a very large kitchen & someone that loves to cook.

Ron, Too bad it didn't work out, but I suspect you will find the right stove before long BTW - I saw the pic you posted of the view you enjoy with your dinner every evening. For the record I hate you
