Honey-child, do NOT talk "mileage", costs, etc to MOI when it comes to Chambers!!! We're the ones that drove nearly ONE THOUSAND MILES EACH DIRECTION to get our Imperial!! STILL paying THAT initial bill down--not even MENTIONING the costs since incurred for restoration!! But you know what? No ones fault but OURS!! Oh well, some folks travel to Europe, others buy Corvettes or jewelry, and idjits like us squander OUR $$ on Chambers ranges--go figure!! CHEERS! Chuckie

That collection of pics are ones I gathered together where ever I could find them in searching about this stove. This old thread is how I found out about it. Notice that this supposedly restored stove it missing the two cranks for the two Thermodomes it should have. As luck would have it, when they finally got to rehabilitating the kitchen an expert in the domestic arrangements of the period of the home was called in to consult. Apparently this guy is something of a stove expert & he happened to know of this huge old range then residing in a barn somewhere in Wisconsin that was, as they say in antiques circles, 'of the period.' After a $10,000 investment for the purchase & renovation of it the museum proudly installed THIS: I'm not sure of the model number, but I believe this one does date to around 1920. I do wish they would get a couple of thermodomes for it, since it originally accommodated 3, but it is beautifully restored, isn't it? All that gleaming enamel & nickel! Oh, and the tour guide claimed it was in full working order. I don't know if it is hooked up to gas or not as I didn't ask, but I didn't really want to know for sure or I'd have been hunting for a match to fire her up & I don't think that would be appreciated! But I would dearly love to have one of these to cook on, so it is one of my dream stoves. If you are ever in Portland I encourage you to tour this house. It is quite a marvelous place. And I haven't even shown you the butler's pantry (with the requisite Lisk roasters), the silver vault or the refrigeration ROOM (well, it has a large double or triple door 1920's-30's refrigerator in it now, but originally the whole beautifully tiled room was refrigerated). Oh, and the public rooms & many bedrooms are quite nice too ;D.

I'm only 40 miles away from this beauty, but I don't think my husband is ready for another one of my harebrained schemes! If anyone here is seriously considering adding this to their fleet, and needs a set of local eyes to check it out in person, let me know!

Does anyone have ronrubles email address. I think I had it from a few emails we exchanged, but I must have deleted them without saving the address. He hasn't logged in since the end of January. I'm wondering if he'd be interested in this stove. He was looking at this model 4972 a while back, & even went to the trouble to make a mockup of it to see how it would fit in his kitchen. It was a right handed stove, but he really needed a left handed stove like this one to work in his kitchen. Since he's been toiling away, working on the model 3742 that he settled on after his other stoves were stolen, I don't know if he'd be receptive to at least having a look at this latest find. Craigslist Rochester NY listing for 4972 R gray for only $400. RATS! It would be a right side oven Hummm...how can I rebuild the house ...again ...NOT "Large commercial antique Chambers Gas Stove- 4 ovens, 7 burners and a warming shelf. The original home of this stove was the Bergen Grange many years ago. It has sat in my barn for many years and its time to let it go. It needs a good cleaning/ reconditioning. I have never used it so do not know about its working condition; it is very heavy, dimensions are 5',8" wide, 5',2" tall and 30" deep." rochester.craigslist.org/atq/2840230446.htmlPlaying over the weekend and made a mock rough layout of my small kitchen "to be" (9’ X 12’) with the gray Model 4972. I have a second option that I will try later this week 1000lbs stove in a 450lbs kitchen

Thanks cinnabar. ronrubles of all people needs a good turn of luck after the thieves violated him by carting off his stoves while he was away.
If I had the space, time & funding, I'd be out the door to get it myself, but I don't. This monster would have to be dismantled to even get it into my little kitchen. I'm struggling along as it is. I can't even find the time & energy to get my model 7141 project moving along.
John, you're certainly be a more than fair & gentlemanly about this. I hope whoever ends up with this stove is someone who will love & cherish it, & preserve it for posterity's sake. Things like this are going the way of the Dodo birds far too fast. They crumble away in barns & basement & end up as scrap sadly far too often.
I think this stove would clean up pretty well. The inside is amazingly clean. It just appears to be VERY dirty with a very little surface rust. I'll bet you could do a thorough top to bottom cleaning, clean & grease the valves & check for leaks, & it would cook up a storm. ;D

The only problem is that it is in a basement and has to be disassembled to get it out. I was put there years ago and the door has since been blocked in.

Thanks for that info, Don. I was told someone from RI was taking a look and I figured that might be you. I can't stop thinking about it. My friends have pretty much talked me out of it and so I have no way to get it. I really can't imagine it wouldn't make some awesome meals for the folks in its current home. I'm trying to justify having a someday stove for a someday house, but I don't even have the C installed yet.

Just got the message... I've been down and out with flu and food posioning (bad hot dog) for the last month +. Oh Boy..... Great shape inside. I got a lot of "spare parts" (2 1/8 stoves). I have a Mississippian Indian pot that I can sell that will pay for the stove, truck rental/gas. It WILL fit in the kitchen. OK, negitive - Has it sold yet? Do I want to do the work? (turning 65 and getting too old for this shit) and How do I get it into my house on the side of a hill with out taking it apart? Hmmmmm ... Well - need to think hard about this.

Good to hear from you. I hope you're on the mend. Your health is more important than any stove. I hope you can make this work for you. It's a rare opportunity but it does pose some obstacles. The biggest one is the comment from Don Mattera. The only problem is that it is in a basement and has to be disassembled to get it out. I was put there years ago and the door has since been blocked in. It almost sounds like you'd have to camp out there for a couple of days while you're taking it apart & packing the parts out through what ever access there is.

On the up side it would already be disassembled taking up the hill. And, then maybe we could visit it. I tried to find help with it, but no luck. It's definitely beyond my skill and strength to even get it out of the basement.

Had a long talk with the guy about the stove... and the stairs. It would need a major disassemble to get it out. Blocked door stays blocked (new sidewalk out side where the opening was years ago. So, up the stairs it must go. I'm thinking it will take 20 hours of hard work (if I'm lucky) to take it apart and get it out of the basement He will be sending me pictures of the stairs. “To complete an impossible task is the same as eating an elephant - do it one bit at a time”

I got(we, hubby and myself) waldo into the back of a mini van in 45 min, but did not have to deal with 3 ovens, broiler, large frame and stairs. I'd say a couple days at most sounds right. Or an all nighter.
