OMG!!!!That was WORTH the wait! Now you have no excuse. It seems many of us are finally getting our stoves up and running with complete parts after a very long time. I still cna't get over Cinnabar's Tdome! Yeah! I think that's the first re-porcelained top I've ever seen. I somehow thought they couldn't do the cast iron. It makes my B top look a little sad, but she's not too jealous. We love her anyway. An imperial needs to look HOT!

Wowza! That is going to be one fine looking stove when you get it back together! Would it help you get started if we went ahead and set the inaugural party date? We could all plan to arrive at your house for Thanksgiving or something.

Excellent idea Karitx! With all that stove we won't even need to bring the sides.

Very nice. Why did it take IPE so long? Did you have them do it as a downtime job or... ?

I S-O-O-O-O-O-O-O need to get BACK on this!! My nephew is in the process of purchasing me Mam's place, and that is where it's "remnants" are stored... *sigh* CHEER(less!)! Chuckie Me God-Nephew Brian & I took the "skins" of the Imperial down to Jeff @ IPE to be redone. For those (few) of you that HAVE driven down there, we got a FLAT TIRE @ Front Street & 435!!! ( dwayner, that is the rockwool place exit) So I wind my way from the FAST lane (doing 80+ the way I drive!!) over to said Front Street exit. Thank GOD Brian was with me--he was like an Indy 500 team, as fast as his ass jumped on the flat, he had it changed!!! Only thing I did was jump out IMMEDIATELY and toss all the Chambers panels off on the side of the highway, so we could GET to the SPARE!!! Brian told me to BACK OFF---and CALL Jeff @ IPE---as it was then 1:50 & they close at two- THIRTY!!! So I calls Jeff, he offered to send reinforcements IF needed--and said he'd be there until we arrived. (was less than 10 miles away). Long story short, we did INDEED arrive approx. 2:15 thanks to my "Indy team nephew". Unloaded the parts, and wended our way to I-70, to head to "The Legends" shopping area in KCKS where I bought my tires @ NTB. RIGHT BEFORE we exited I-70 to I-435, there was a custom/conversion van TOTALLY ENGULFED in FLAMES!!!! Like shooting twelve feet in the air!! There was a person in an electric wheelchair next to the responder, so ASSUME it was THEIR vehicle. Since there was already a first responder already there, my retired Navy corpsman God-nephew suggested we just press on. When we passed the van you could FEEL the heat plumb over in the fast lane!!!! Before we got to 435 exit, a firetruck was coming up upon the scene, so we assumed all was well... S-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O I guess on October 2nd--Guardian Angel Feast Day in the Catholic church---me nephew & I put OUR two Guardian Angels on DOUBLE-TIME!!! PRAISE GOD we came through everything fine!!! We taxed said G.A.'s FURTHER, in that we went & sat in Danny's Bar @ said Legends until they mounted a NEW tire and stowed away the spare---which took CONSIDERABLE time!!! The more I'm involved with this Imperial, the LESS I think God wants me to FINISH it!!!! I may be finished before IT is!!! CHEERS! Chuckie

I love how Chuckie always takes it all in stride. I observed some years ago how some people never have things happen to them like with Chuckie's recent IPE trip and others seem to have all kinds of stories like that. I never did a scientific study or anything but it sure seems to me that the folks with the stories are out there enjoying life and doing things they love and that sure seems to fit Chuckie. And in many of our cases we can sure relate. Maybe it's partly a case of "misery loves company"?

Chuckie, here's a few pics of the model A style control handles. The little piece you refereed to in your message just floats in there. It should just slide out the side once you unscrew the actuating rod. These are put together a lot like cable brake levers on a bicycle. As I said in my message reply to you, don't pry around on the handles. They are cast iron, & are brittle. They don't bend. They'll just break. Well, ONCE AGAIN the Chambers family comes through!!! I messaged pooka late yesterday asking this question, and asked dwayner the same thing earlier today. He replied he knew NADA about "A"s!!! I KNOW pooka's schedule is screwy & didn't know when he'd get back to me. In the interim, dwayner texted Melissa who texted ME w/about the SAME INFO, SAME TIME as pooka replied to my message--although Pooka's was WITH photos I might add!!! I would NEVER get as far as I am w/o you folks---you're the GREATEST!!! I'm bustin' butt now trying to get EVERYTHING READY, as the Chambers gypsy is coming AGAIN the end of the month, and I don't want him pi$$ed at MOI!!! THANKS AGAIN, ALL!!CHEERS! Chuckie

OK gang, I can take pix again & post, so look out!! I wire brushed the Imperial oven burners PRETTY GOOD, IMHO. I then put them into a tub of vinegar. Here they are after about a week--you can kinda see the outline of the burners via the muck--little one in the interior, outline of big one outside, Chuckie's BIG FEET visible @ bottom!!! Here they were today, after about THREE weeks!!Purty DISGUSTING, eh?!! Hope there's something LEFT when I take them out!! CHEERS! Chuckie

Chuckie ...and here's the burner hosed/cleaned up--three weeks of soak, and notice those holes that I had told mach12, dwayner & pooka in emails that looked like they had NEVER been opened!!: The three showing @ the bottom, I just used the indentations--kinda like they were "center punched"--for my drill bit, and I eventually drilled them ALL open. They were SOLID CAST IRON as I drilled them, iron shavings coming outta the drill hole, so I HOPE they didn't make TWO sorts of burners or something!!! Pooka, if you can see if your oven burner lights ALL THE WAY AROUND--including that cross piece where it slides over the orifice--I'd be MUCH obliged!! CHEERS! Chuckie

Pooka, if you can see if your oven burner lights ALL THE WAY AROUND--including that cross piece where it slides over the orifice--I'd be MUCH obliged!! CHEERS! Chuckie Here it is, before I hung it upside down to drain AFTER running the garden hose in it like a SPRINKLER!!! The FIRST time I ran the hose, the holes on the "L" side--as in looking @ the pic--were ' SOLID'. This pic shows them compared to the previous pic after they were drilled out and after I scrubbed them down w/000 steel wool and paint thinner: And you see those close-together-smaller holes over the bridge on the neck that sits over the orifice? They TOO are TOTALLY SOLID--I assume THEY need drilled out as well-- pooka, does yours light across that span?!!! I put it in a (cold) oven with a temp set @ 450, let it come to temp, and ate dinner w/Monkey. When we were finished, I took it out, let it cool slightly per Griswold instructions, greased it lightly w/Crisco (substitute from Aldi's), then put it back in the oven @ 400 degrees for 30 minutes, and then was further instructed by Griswold site to turn the oven OFF and let it set till the oven cools down (I used the porch oven to do this, so as to NOT dirty the Chambers!) I will take it out in the morning, and post a pic. ANYONE w/an "A" that wants to comment on the oven burner holes and how they light, PLEASE FEEL FREE, by all means!! CHEERS! Chuckie UPDATE: And here it is, after seasoning in the oven w/Crisco--like you do an iron skillet. QUITE the difference, dont'cha think?!! Note ALL holes drilled out--sans the raised piece on the neck...

Chuckie, I dug out the burner for my model 7141. Those holes along a six inch span of the back are not drilled out, but they are on my model 74. The little raised area above the center tube just has some little peck marks, but no holes on either of my burners.
I looked in the model B/BZ manual on page 20 where it show all the burner types & flame heights for them, it shows the part number 1125. The illustration shows no holes along the back. I then looked at the 1930 catalog for the series 4000 & 5000. On page 25 it shows pics of parts for the 5000 series. It shows a part number 1125 oven burner. It's the same, except it shows a little collar just behind the bell where the gas comes in. I looked further into my pics of series 3000 stoves from about 1926 to 1930. The oven burner it uses is nearly identical to the part 1125. The only difference it the center tube is flatten on the later one, but rounded on the early one. The old one has only one of those fins opposite from the from where the gas enters, whereas they're on either side of the later one. It's where it rests on supports in the oven. The older one also has little peg legs on the bottom where it's supported. On the series 3000 & 4000, the burner is rotated 90 degrees because the gas enters from the front. On the series 5000 & on, the gas enters from the right side.
To summarize, this burner design has been around a while. I wasn't sure how far back it goes until I found a pic of a series 2000's oven burner. It's different. With minor changes, this basic design has been used from the mid 20s up to the model A that was made till 1939. Some time in 1935, they decided those hole along the back didn't need to be there anymore per the difference between my model 74 & 7141. It won't hurt that you drilled them out, since that's how they were an earlier stoves. I'm sure they had a reason for deleting them. I can only speculate as to why.
As we've discovered, Chambers didn't change things without a good reason. This was a proven burner design that was just tweaked a bit over a long period of time. The body was virtually unchanged on this burner. They just rearranged the support fins, flattened the center tube & on the series 5000 added that little collar I'll assume as some way to lock it into place & possibly support it. It would be easy for the mold makers to simply alter a pattern they already had than come up with a totally different one.
