When I click on any topic post my internet security comes up and blocks a program from being down loaded. What I click on comes up find but this is the message (started today)
“To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked site from downloading files to your computer”
This just started today. Why is it doing this and What are the files the site is trying to down load?

Use firefox with the NoScript plugin. (I'd also recommend AdBlockPlus). Only allow the scripts you want/need. Let the rest go away.

This might explain why I haven't seen those screens. Also, firefox will allow you to use Crazedlist--where you can search a WHOLE STATE or area of the country w/o going one town at a time (think Craiglist on steroids). Explorer won't allow you do use Crazedlist on their browser.

I've only used Firefox almost since it came out because Internet Explorer was always so buggy. Every time there was a fix to it, there was a new problem. When Firefox came out, I gave up on Internet Explorer & it's been smooth browsing since. Although there have been a glitches here & there, no where near as many as Internet Explorer.
In fact I removed Internet Explorer from my computer until not that long ago because I never used it. I re-installed a while back because an Indiana State government website that showed the location of old abandoned coal mines wouldn't work with Firefox. Or at least their map application wouldn't work.

The "thing" that caused the website to try to download a file has stopped. Probably it was a "bad" ad located at the top of the page. So, the problem has stopped for now

I agree with Sporko - get Adblock Plus, no more bad ads, but it doesn't work with Internet Explorer.

Technically, firefox came out BEFORE internet explorer. (Geek here.) Firefox is a spin-off of netscape/mozilla, which pre-dates IE. The only browser I know of older than Mozilla is Mosaic -- which was what I started with and used until Mozilla came out. In the early days, the web was a unix thing and wasn't even available on windows boxes. I ran netscape on Sun Solaris in those days.

I used to use Mozilla Back in the day when it was Netscape I've tried every browser out there and keep returning to IE. Simply put, it works on every website I go to.... I can't say that for FF/Chrome/Etc. I also don't like the way FF renders the page, which makes it feel slower to me. To me, if I have to use IE sometimes... I might as well use it all the time FF is a good product for the most part... It does have some kewl plug-ins

If you have a 64 bit machine I recommend 'Waterfox'. I have used Firefox for years now and the 64bit version is so much better!
