I am currently “stoveless” in Tennessee and I have set my priority for my “Dream Stove”. The restoration of my cabin / kitchen has fallen far behind schedule, so that gives me more than a year to look for what I want. This is my priority list for the Pre-A “Dream Stove”. Condition: #1, #2 and #3 to be in some restorable condition and can have some parts missing that could be replaced by Model 3141 parts stove. Any of the others listed must be in better condition. #1 Chambers 3541-B (with Thermodome) - black #2 Chambers 3541-W (with Thermodome) - white ******************************* #3 Chambers 4541 – White (with Thermodome) *************************** #5 Chambers 3741-BL (with Thermodome) – black #6 Chambers 3741-WL (with Thermodome) – white ************************** Could not find photo of 3942-BL or WL but they look like photo of 4942 without the Autostat controls (below) #7 Chambers 3942 – BL (with at least one Thermodome remaining) – black #8 Chambers 3942 – WL (with at least one Thermodome remaining) – white ************************** #9 Chambers 4942 – White Left (with at least one Thermodome remaining)

Here are pictures of Model 3541B & Model 3942BR as well as others from the same Late 1920s catalog of the 3000 series stoves. And individual pics cut from it for your convenience. This color scheme must not have been as popular because I see fewer of them. I guess the white ones brightened up the kitchen more & that's why they were more favored in the 20's. I wish you luck in your search. You've picked a tough row to hoe, but you never know if the stove gods might smile upon you. ;D

Ron--did you decide you weren't interested in this one? It is GONE from craigslist, but I'd bet it's still available... Lemme know, I can get the Monkey to go out & take some detailed pix IF it's still there (as I suspect) and you are interested... CHEERS! Chuckie

MY guess is those colours may have been too reminiscent of their recent memory old wood stove colours and thus NOT as desirable...

I think that Black just did not sell well because women didn’t think it was….sexy. If you look at late Model Pre-A’s 4000 and 5000 series, Black was not offered but they added the colors of Gray & White which was used by many of the wood burning stove makers like Home Comfort, Royal and others
Chuckie – Probably the smart thing would be to buy the stove in KC but I have been going through life with my head lights on dim & tail lights on bright. I’m going to go with my heart because I really like (and want) the early Pre-A style. Thank you for offering to get the photos

ronruble, it's good to know what you want sometimes. So often we think we know what we want, but we really don't. Frequently I know I want something, but I'm unsure exactly what it is until I find it. My chambers was one of those things. I wanted an old gas stove to replace my grandma's old 1920's stove that my cousins claimed from my basement kitchen when she died. I looked off & on for years but never found one that felt right until I saw the craigslist ad & these two pictures. As strange as it sounds, I knew I had found my stove, even though I didn't know what it was. I knew it was something special. Even stranger is that after a long period of research trying to find out about it, I found out that this model was called the "Special". I can see why some people believe in destiny when something miraculous or apropo happens. I needed a stove & was in a particularly dark time in my life where I needed a boost. But my logical brain knows that if you throw the dices often enough for long enough, your bound to win something eventually. It still feels great when it happens. Especially when your not sure what you were looking for in the first place. Life is funny that way sometimes. I'm going to end with this stove I spotted on Kalamazoo, MI craigslist yesterday. I know it's not one on your list but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway. I'm not for sure what model it is, but my guess is a model 4140W. It's the same model that was used in the movie "Julie and Julia" where they were replicating the kitchen in this old picture. And here's the movie set picture. Here's the craigslist ad & pic. kalamazoo.craigslist.org/hsh/2753290722.htmlAnd here's some other better pics where they had it listed before somewhere that I can't remember. I don't see any indication that it had a thermodome so maybe it's one of the models not equipped with one that my old instruction booklet talks about that you could do thermodome recipes in the oven. Here are pics that FatFutures posted of his "Big Girl (3942-WR)" showing his warming oven that has an oven bottom like it talks of in my booklet. Big Girl (3942-WR) Warming over burner with gas burner grate: Just a lil tid bit to add to the knowledge pool. Well I've rambled on too long again. Please forgive me for it, sometimes I just can't help it.

Good thing I never saw those big girls - amazing!!! Ron, I love that small one with the thermodome and the warmers above - 3541. That looks just like a cabin. Hope you find one. I didn't know they came that way.
I'm sure all our sleuths will keep an eye out. Good luck and happy hunting!!

Nothing is locked in stone on what Model Chambers ends up finding a home in my kitchen. Originally I was looking for a Model “C” high back like my mom had when I was growing up. I found this website and started reading cinnabar’s post about her Pre-A “Dainty Lady” and I was hooked on the Pre-A style. Funny that you mentioned "Big Girl (3942-WR)" because I found it listed on craigslist in Texas and tried for 3 days to figure out how to make it work in my small kitchen. I made a cardboard mock-up of the stove and played with different scenarios. The 3942 will fit in the kitchen and work only if it is an “L” style with the cook surface on the right side. So I finally posted my find on the website – Swap Meet and we all know who got her. A left 3942 would be great in my kitchen but the chances of finding one may be harder than finding a 3541 or 4541. Somebody asked why “black”? Well…that’s because of my crazy colors I plan/want in the kitchen. BRIGHT Yellow walls, bright red trim, black & white floor and restored antique tin ceiling painted copper or white. So, a white stove would look great but a cool looking black stove with chrome would be a center piece. Saying that, I just missed a Pre-A model 4141; high back (no broiler type) in “blue” which was probably special ordered from chambers. That little stove tweeted me and I could have lived with that stove – color change for the kitchen but that would have been OK. For some unknown reason I do not like Green on a stove or even on the trim. That dose not means that I wouldn’t buy a Greenie if it “tweeted” me. Nothing is locked in stone I have a year or more to look for my “dream” stove (what ever it is) so I’m going to take my time. …..I wonder if I make an offering of a brownie to the stove gods, would that help?

I’m getting my dream stove the same way you eat an elephant – one bite at a time. Purchased a parts stove this weekend. Many parts missing but has a lot of new chrome pieces. ;D
