I was hungry for Swiss Steak, and the electric skillet recipe I used for YEARS was FAB, but thought I'd try it in the well. It came out GREAT! I went to the grocers to buy round steak, and it was higher than SIRLOIN!! I bought the sirloin instead! Here's the recipe: THERMOWELL SWISS STEAK 2#'s round steak (or sirloin) cut into serving size flour for dredging S&P to taste 2TBS olive oil Dredge meat in flour and season to taste (IF using round steak I 'pound' the flour/S&P in w/a meat tenderizing mallet). Add olive oil to skillet, brown meat on both sides. Transfer meat to large thermowell kettle. Add: 1/2 cup diced celery (3 or 4 stalks or so) 1 medium onion, diced 1 small green bell pepper, diced 1 - large (28oz) can diced Italian style tomatoes + 1/2 can water ( instead I used one 14.5 oz can diced Italian style tomatoes w/a 10 oz can of Original Rotell Tomatoes to give it some fire & 1 rotell sized can of water) Place pot in well, run gas on full 20 to 30 minutes or until you can hear it boiling or see steam coming out of well; turn off gas. CWTGTO 1.5 hours or all day. The sirloin came out SUPER TENDER! Perfect served w/mashed potatoes and the veggies/juice ladled over the meat & spuds.

I went to the grocers to buy round steak, and it was higher than SIRLOIN!! I bought the sirloin instead! Sirloin was about falling apart when done though, so I'd stick w/round steak in the future. Here's the recipe: THERMOWELL SWISS STEAK 2#'s round steak cut into serving size flour for dredging S&P to taste 2TBS olive oil Dredge meat in flour and season to taste. CWTGTO 1.5 hours or all day. The sirloin came out SUPER TENDER, almost falling apart! Perfect served w/mashed potatoes and the veggies/juice ladled over the meat & spuds. I bought all this yesterday morn w/the intent of cooking it in the THERMOWELL again. HOWEVER, while checking out @ the grocers, I got the infamous work call, so hauled everything home to the icebox. Last night upon arriving home, I followed instructions up to "Place pot in the well..." At this point, I put it in Monkey's Vitacraft Dutch oven on the stove top, ran gas until it came to the boil, and then turned the burner down to the VERY lowest, covered pan and let cook a little over an hour while I prepped mashed spuds and heated a tin of Italian green beans. The round steak came out nice and tender, so guess you could prep this just as easy stove-top if need be...
And I left enough bell pepper & onions for Monkey to simmer one of her griller veggie burgers in separate Vitacraft skillet with a can of rotel tomatoes when she got home. She said it came out mighty tasty too!

Aldi's had a package of top round marked down today--and since I had all the other ingredients already on HAND--decided to "bump this up" tonight. It's in the well now, w/peeled potatoes on stove top to boil then be mashed w/butter & Half-n-Half....

It's in the well now, w/peeled potatoes on stove top to boil then be mashed w/butter & Half-n-Half.... CHEERS! Chuckie I decided to cross this recipe with the sweet-n-sour recipe. Below is the "mutt" that came from the relationship... I had one Swiss steak left--about the size of a teacup saucer--and a whole BUNCH of tomatoes/juice/veggies. S-o-o-o I decided to brown a # of hamburger, shred the leftover steak and throw it back in my midsized thermowell pot. Added one more can of diced tomatoes, a small bag of coleslaw mix,2 tsp of brown sugar and 1 tsp sour salt, then put it into the well with 15 minutes gas. Will let you know how it comes out... I think that sweet and sour cabbage and tomatoes combo can work with just about anything. Next time I get a hold of some country style pork ribs I’m planning on giving that a try!
