Beautiful! How cool is it to take something used and dilapidated and make it better than anything you could buy new?!!!

Again, thanks to everyone who gave me advice and encouragement to do this. You guys rock! She'd still be rusting away in the lakehouse basement if there weren't the support here. cinn

I replaced the cracked nut and the ferrule on the tubing of the Rutz, and it works! That cracked nut may have been the culprit, too much air in the mix? Any how, the rear burners won't light due to the fact the drip pans the hold them up have no opening for the flame to come through. I think the rutz was not original for this stove, my guess is the burner was added to it as a floor model to show the feature of the rutz by the dealer. Well, it sounds logical anyway. I fashioned a restricting collar for under the push button out of heavy wire, like a C clip and it seems to help keep the button going down too far, thus blowing out the flame. A lot of fol-di-rol for lighting 3 of the 6 burners on the stove. We'll see how it goes, I still may cap off the rutz at some time if it proves ineffective. cinn

What do you all think of the difference in the burners. The one on the left is Lady's original black, the right is Waldo's grey. More BTU's I was eventually planning on getting the good burners from Waldo with new black enamel and switching them. Could be a win win situation. Also will use Waldo's front and oval grate as they are in very good shape. The white drip pan under the burners is Waldo too, as are two of the white handles on the valves. Nice to have a donor stove on hand. cinnabar

Are Lady and Waldo the same model stove? The burners are so different.

I'm blind! What are the differences, other than the burners and oven handle color?

The total layout is just not as fluid on Waldo, 'course I'm biased. Waldo has.... The oven top is shorter, thus making the flue extend out the back. Lady's is enclosed.
Burners have extra holes, 8 more. And as ronruble pointed out, the shutters are backwards.
Raised stove top.
Shorter legs by about 4"
Oven handle is nickel under the black paint.
No mica windows.
Backsplash bracket is open and plated, Lady has an enamel panel.
The washers on the oven front are brass not aluminium.
I'm still finding more differences as I dig into it. Who knew that a similar stove has so much not the same. We think Waldo is an earlier stove than Lady too. Waldo needs his own thread I guess. Cinnabar

Got a call from IPE yesterday saying they will send Lady's newly enameled grates next Monday. ;D I'm very excited! Cost for the double and 2 single grates, $72.50. The prices are about 18% higher than the 2009 price list states. The shipping both ways is about $25. Should be well worth the money not to have the raw broken iron scratching the bottoms of the wearever and reverware pans. Not to mention looking very sharp. Will report when they arrive. cinn

Too shiney and sweeeet. Need the burners done now. Or maybe I'll just oil them up. Took 2 weeks from sending it out, to getting it back all done. IPE rocks. Dainty Lady is a hard working stove that likes to strike a pose!

Wow, she really is dainty! And somehow on those risers she reminds me of a kid sitting on a phone book to reach the table, which comment shows both my age and that I grew up in a big enough city to have a thick phone book!

That's great news. You never know what's going to happen in a move. We've been kicking around moving and will take our BZ, Pepper, with us if we do but not sure whether to stick a modern stove in or go with another Chambers. I've heard so many stories about people having the Chambers in the kitchen when they put their old home on the market and then offers saying the stove had to stay that I think I should just stick something in and never even let them see Pepper. The area where we're at is in so much demand that it's getting pretty crowded, so we're worried that the city is on its way to us. Last year they were talking about condemning all the land and homes around here and building an airport, but they neglected to consider the fact that our places border a military base and an airport can't be within a certain distance, so that went out the window. It still got us thinking though. Now they want to rezone it and I just don't have the fight anymore, so we'll see.

I know the feeling of the city being on its way. I live in a very rural area, still mostly dairy farms, but also many others. Nearby we have orchards, sheep, grass fed beef, vegetables—and all kinds of niche agricultural producers. Everything from lavender to marijuana(now that it’s legal, it doesn’t have to be hidden in the middle of a cornfield anymore!😉). But you can feel it changing. Many of the smaller dairies have either gone under, or been consolidated into the few remaining ones. New houses on 5 acre lots carved out of former fields. During the pandemic we had a big influx of people from NYC looking to find a place to get away. Houses that had sat on the market for years were being snapped up sight unseen in bidding wars! Now, after a few years, a lot of those new folks went back to the city, realizing that they can’t function without being able to get pizza or chinese food delivered, I guess. But enough stayed to kind of change the dynamic here. I always used to say I love the stink when farmers spread the manure in summer because it keeps out the riff-raff. Now I’m kind of anticipating the first lawsuit from some rich big city fat cat complaining about it. We have right to farm laws, but I don’t think they have ever been tested in court. And just recently someone brought up to the town board the need for a “beautification committee,” which is fine by me if they want to have a flower garden contest or something, but I fear it may be code for fining people if they don’t mow their lawn, or worse. My feeling is as long as it doesn’t affect the health or safety of other residents, I don’t care what people do on their own property. Mow, or don’t mow. Have it ready for its close up in House Beautiful or collect junk cars and scrap metal. All the same to me. I think if they’re going to worry so much about their property values being affected, then maybe this isn’t the place for them. But if enough of them move in, then maybe it won’t be the place for me anymore…
