"they say"....mae west was really a man.....then, there are those who say she was really a woman...while she was always intersting and wearing.....he, wc, was always irritating and ... more irritating. we had an OLD friend who was a hollywood dancing boy when he was young and beautiful...danced in quite a few movies, way in the back, you could never recognize him...he toldus mae west, during filmingbreaks was strapped to a slant board and rested thusly so that her costume wouldn't wrinkle...i once spent the day on the set of Dynasty and was shocked to see joan collins wore big old fuzzy houseslippers while filming if her feet weren't in the shot...kind of nasty old slippers...the kind you look at think "i really oughta get a new pair...."

Danny, Mark, good job on the website. Much smiting to you! (I'm in Bizarro world, remember)
Simple and easy to navigate.
Thought this was classy:

"Quality reprints are also readily available on eBay & from other venues." Actually they're not available from eBay anymore. eBay has a policy against selling copies of stuff like this. eBay doesn't bother to check the copyright, if it looks like it might be copyrighted material, they remove the listing. My auctions were shut down and I notice all the other similar auctions are gone too.

I understood that the manuals were no longer under copyright. I would hope that no one is flagging anyone's sales on ebay without good reason.
Suggestion for the new site: a section for photo galleries of stoves and restorations by various individuals.
Not only would it be nice to see various restored and in-use Chambers (in your nifty kitchens), but it also would be handy to those of us with restoration ambitions to see the step-by-step processes that you've followed in taking apart, cleaning, refurbishing, and reassembling your stoves. Before-and-after pics are inspirations to us all.

Are you saying that Sammy can no longer sell reprints on ebay? You have got to be kidding me. He had all kinds of great stuff that none of us have originals of, and now he's lost his business??!! Why? If this is the result of all this feud stuff, then I think that it has done a lot of people a very large disservice. Not everyone wants to frog around and print their own cook books, etc. Some folks just want to be able to buy one that's already done. I'm all for us being able to post scans of stuff, but driving others out of the market was not part of the deal. That's just miserable.

Agreed, and well-put.
Bury the feud, now. It's history. We've got at least two viable discussion groups on the internet, and there's an increasing number of Chambers resources on the web. Any resource that this group produces should stand on its own.
I call for an end to petty crap. Enough's enough. The new website has the potential to be a great resource for and by this group and more. No need to do anything but positive stuff. Leave the negative stuff to would-be trolls.

i just checked ebay....reprints are still for sale. also, if there are people who need to perpetuate the problems, so be it. I would prefer to think that most of us are smart enough to move on to something more important...ok....i need to go paint my NO WAR sign for this weekend's protest.

I'm all for us being able to post scans of stuff, but driving others out of the market was not part of the deal. That's just miserable. I rather doubt the eBay policy has anything to do with us. My experience of eBay has been that policies like this come along slowly, after much back & forth. I'm sure there were people selling illegal reprints of copyrighted materials & it was deemed to be too difficult & expensive to verify copyright or provide a mechanism for sellers to prove the legality of what they were selling. In other words, I would guess this was all just a coincidence. It is really too bad that legitimate sellers of quality material should run up against this, but, as I'm given to say (probably far too frequently)--there you are! Since the items in question in this case are perfectly legal to sell people can always do so via their own websites or something, I guess. As far as feuds go--initial frustrations with things vented aside--I don't believe in them, don't want them, won't participate in them. I haven't been 12 for a LONG time !

"I would guess this was all just a coincidence."
Anyone that thinks that Sam no longer being a registered eBay seller the very same day that Lowracer/Chuck come here and develops his "strategy" using eBay to boost viewership on VintageChambers.com believes in voodoo.
Sam was making some income by selling literature on Chambers Stoves. Lowracer/Chuck went to eBay and attempted to increase viewership to the website that the leaders of this forum have developed by offering to provide that literature free of charge. Who did anyone think that this "strategy" was going to hurt?
How many people here have benefited from Sam's charitable information? Would lowracer/chuck have even had a PDF he could provide here if Sam hadn't helped him with the information to build a safety?
There were some here that upon the establishment of this site stated that they believed that Sam might come over here to provide technical advice. They stated that Sam was no longer posting on the other site ... Well, he's been posting on the other site. I suppose to some, that makes him in cahoots with the "enemy." Now that he's been hurt like this, how inclined do you think he'll be to help anyone on this site in the future?
Coincidence! ---- Yeah, right. The VERY SAME DAY that lowracer/chuck begins his "strategy" ...
Congratulations - to whom?

I've seen photos of actresses strapped in to those boards to 'rest' in between shooting. Looks damned uncomfortable, but probably less so than standing up in those dresses for hours. Also heard somewhere that Mae West was actually almost sewn in to those sheath dresses she wore, so she probably couldn't have sat down in them anyway, wrinkles or not. Of course, she also was so short that she stood on boxes to be filmed next to her leading men & the dresses were constructed so that they extended below whatever she was perched on. . .or so "they" say! In many ways she was quite a fascinating character, quite adept at creating her persona & sticking with it until the day she died.

I'm not really sure of your motives for posting here, Gabrieldresser, but it's a free country, after all. I'd rather hear the positive things about your stove, or about what movies you're watching or books you're reading -- or even discuss politics.
There's two groups, and no reason why they can't coexist. We don't know if anyone here or in the other group flagged Lowracer as selling potentially copyrighted info, or why Sam appears to have closed his Ebay store. I think it's clear from an Ebay search that Todd is still selling copies of the Chambers manual, and, as I noted above, this group's new website also reports that copies of manuals are available for sale on Ebay.
I'd rather let Sam the Uncertain Stoveman speak for himself, and I just now shot him an email inviting him to do just that. It's up to him, I reckon.
Aside from that, let bygones be bygones, and let's all work together on the common ground that we do have, whether that be Chambers ranges, old houses, or other sundry topics. I'm sorry that events transpired that ended up in the splitting up of a perfectly decent discussion group into two, but the internet is big enough for two and then some -- and some, like you and I, and others, are members of both groups.
I look at the other group as a great technical resource -- and one which I plan to use increasingly as I get into my resto -- but this group is a wonderful community that sprung up around the nexus of the stoves, and metastasized into pretty much any area that anyone wishes to talk about. It's too bad that things happened the way they did, but it's my hope that both groups will thrive, and that there'll be enough cross-membership that differences will eventually be bridged.
