nana, I humbly accept your praise, although undeserved. It's tough to be appreciated for revealing the obvious. All my life, people seem dumbfounded by what I casually observe & note in the world that surrounds me. I am seen as some kind of oracle reveling hidden knowledge when something seems to be clearly & logically plain as day, at least to my eyes. I guess it's because most are either not looking with a critical mind or never seem to have the proper perspective & don't take the time to contemplate what they're looking at. We live in our own little bubbles of reality, & frequently aren't able to step outside them to have an objective point of view to see things through others eyes. Not that it's really relevant or of any actual significance, but my zodiac sign is Libra, the sign of the scales. So it seems I've always stood in the middle, balancing everything around me against each other to try to understand this thing we call life. I am that third perspective that is a part of all things. Most people see anything as black or white, but I see the grey between & lean one way or the other as it seems relevant. I have the uncomfortable ability to step outside myself to view both sides of a question to contemplate which is the truer or proper side that makes more sense. My guiding light is logic & reason. I subscribe the the phrase from Socrates who said; "I know that I know nothing" or "I know one thing: that I know nothing". It's called the Socratic paradox. It credited to him by Plato. I then proceed from there to deduce what there is to know on any given thing. This works for everything in the universe & beyond. I read an article some time ago about a visit the Dalai Lama took to Santa Fe, N.M. where he made a stop at a local ski resort because being from a mountainous area, his hosts though he might enjoy it. Anyway, as he finish his meal at the restaurant, the waitress asked the big question that no one else was brave enough to. “What is the meaning of life?” I'll quote the version from the article as I don't want to distort my retelling of it. Here's a link if you care to read the whole thing. The Dalai Lama’s Ski Trip“Can I, um, ask a question?”
“Please.”
"She spoke with complete seriousness. “What is the meaning of life?”
In my entire week with the Dalai Lama, every conceivable question had been asked—except this one. People had been afraid to ask the one—the really big—question. There was a brief, stunned silence at the table.
The Dalai Lama answered immediately. “The meaning of life is happiness.” He raised his finger, leaning forward, focusing on her as if she were the only person in the world. “Hard question is not, ‘What is meaning of life?’ That is easy question to answer! No, hard question is what make happiness. Money? Big house? Accomplishment? Friends? Or …” He paused. “Compassion and good heart? This is question all human beings must try to answer: What make true happiness?” He gave this last question a peculiar emphasis and then fell silent, gazing at her with a smile.
“Thank you,” she said, “thank you.” She got up and finished stacking the dirty dishes and cups, and took them away."We seek a modicum happiness through our stove & our little treasures that we collect as we walk through time. Too often, we ask the easy questions, thinking they are the hard ones. The really hard questions all to often, never occur to us.

Man, nana, you got a BARGAIN!!! I got my NOS pieces pretty cheap, but I forked out $28 for the cookie sheet because I was smitten. Of course, it came exactly as it looks in the photos, so no cleanup required beyond a regular hand wash.I haven't done any serious cleaning on any of my pieces, actually.
The madness is contagious, isn't it?

You can breathe now Chuckie! Yes, but with some qualifications. I will give the details in the salad section for posterity, though.
Pooka, I probably would have googled it and eventually come up with a cleaning plan, but usually I have to wade through so many irrelevant things to get to what I really need. To have the correct answer already pre-screened does bring me happiness, so you really do deserve my praise and thanks!

Thanks for the praise nana. Sorry, but sometimes I don't take compliments well. Also, when I get started, too frequently having the bit in my teeth, I run with it to places I know not where. I'm overly independent & wonder why others aren't as well. I don't mind helping others as much as that comment make me sound. I'd hate if it sounds like I'm pontificating. I just try to instill knowledge & the thirst for wisdom to all I encounter.
Thursday night at work, one of the shift managers couldn't get her car started, so one of the others came & asked if I knew anything about cars. It was slow, so I was able to look at it & get it started with a jump, since I had cables in my trunk. She was ready to call triple A for help, but I was quicker. She's just from another generation from me that hasn't learned the skills my generation takes for granted.
I'm just that grumpy old guy that will gladly help, but has to grumble about the helplessness of the younger generations. I'm always thought of as the go to guy that seems to know more about more things than anyone else in the room, even if I don't. Mostly because I spend way too much time looking thing up, & absorbing too much obscure information than most have an interest in. I've found it pays to know a little bit about everything, but few others have the patients or interest to do so until they need to, then it's too late.
In short, I'm your friendly everyday introvert. I'm not apposed to interaction, but mostly content in my fortress of solitude where I can give my time, thoughts & efforts in measured portions. If it were up to me, I wouldn't even have a telephone, but it's a evil I must endure when the need arises. I'm happiest with the world at arms length.

I understand introverts. I married one and gave birth to one. The world needs both kinds of people.
As far as pontification goes, I read the Dalai Lama quote out loud this morning and my visiting brother immediately commented on how he's never happier than when he's ranting and pontificating. You could cut the sarcasm with a knife as we all demurred--Oh,no, not you, really we hadn't noticed....So I'm used to that too!

FYI the ovenex pans I got fit in the broiler, but only just. In fact I had a bad moment when I had to jiggle it a little to get it back out, but they are the perfect thing to make a big pan of nachos on. Why not use the broiler platter you ask? So people don't burn the hell out of their fingers as they eat. That sucker gets wicked hot! And stays that way for a while!
